so yeah, they're was already a test in november, but i just took my sat writing today and I'm taking the old sat reasoning in january.

did anyone else take the writing, i'm curious to see if we had the same question.

mine was "the needs of an individual are not as important as the needs of a group, nation or people."

how fucking gay is that shit. i had to resort to writing a load of bullshit about jesus christ.

    i'm just hoping for a 700.

so what do you guys think? by the way, i'm not trying to turn this into a "brag about what you got on the sat's" thread. be humble about the shit.

mine was "the needs of an individual are not as important as the needs of a group, nation or people."

That sounds more like a statement than a question, but I'm an idiot and probably just don't understand.

    anyway.
the PSAT's in october were complete shit. so the SAT's sound like hell.
    i don't want to do it. :(

    sorry, i meant prompt.

in case you don't know steve, for the sat writing, you're given a prompt or statement and you have to write a 2 page essay on that topic in 20 minutes. the hardest part is coming up with a solid example for you essay in so little time. and after that, there's forty more minutes of multiple choice grammar questions.

    i hate college board tests.

I am so glad I got to take the now old SAT. No essay! Of course I still don't see how an essay can ever truely be objectively scored.

I took the PSAT's earlier in October, and they were pretty easy, but from this prompt that you had to write about, the SAT's sound like a bitch. I don't wanna take them.

What's most important about that essay, how you write or what you write?

"the needs of an individual are not as important as the needs of a group, nation or people."

Didn't Hitler say something like that?

Didn't Hitler say something like that?

That's pretty much the premise of the unpublished second book.

That's actually one of the easier topics I've heard in a while. There's a lot you can write about it with it.

I got a 1370 last year when I took it for the second time (so using the old grading system).

    710 math
    670 english

    ^ nice.

What's most important about that essay, how you write or what you write?

how you write is most definitley most important but at the same time, they penilize for weak topics.

the topics themselves are obviously pretty broad so you could interprit them pretty broadly.

basically, they want to see that you're a good writer, and that's my biggest qualm with the test. how does coming up with an essay topic in about 2 minutes and writing at such a terribly fast pace really show how good of a writer one is? the format is flawed i think.

Not only that but the SAT is supposed to be objective. How can an essay ever be objective?

I took the SAT today, the old one without the essay. It was not as bad as I thought, but I still left quite a few blank. Even though it's my first try, I'm still hoping for a score in the 12-1300 range. I guess we'll see in 2 weeks though.

Took the PSAT earlier this year and got a 1420 so old scores would have been 720 English and 700 Math and thats without completing Algebra II yet so my math score should be loads better next year. I'm in 10th grade BTW. I found the essay easy. It was my best score.

I think I got a 760....total, with someone reading it to me :|

Damn, I feel stupid. I got an 1120 when I took the SAT two years ago. I scored lower in math which was wierd considering it is my strongest subject. I don't remember if we had an essay or not.

Slob, was yours the SAT I or II? It sounds like II.

Anyway, I do feel sorry for you guys who are going to have to take the new SAT I, which has Verbal, Math, and Writing, for a total new max score of 2400. That's gotta suck, and yeah, no standardized test will ever truly measure your intelligence, but that's the system.

Anyway, it was weird for me, cuz when I took the SAT I, I scored higher on verbal than in math as well. Three stupid mistakes, as it turned out, but I was really happy with my verbal score. :D

I think I got a 760 in my SAT II Writing... I hated that you only had 20 min. to write the essay. Who the heck writes that fast??
  • Rhynos%s's Photo
Yea, I've only gotten an 1190...both times I've taken it. But I didn't study for either, soooo maybe if i hurrry and sign up for the first one in January AND study, I won't have to take the essay portion and I may get higher than a 1250 hopefully. Does anyone know what the ACT is based more on? Is more math/science or literature/history? Because I would scream over to the ACTs and take it if they were more math/science based - that's my forte.

Hehe, over here we do SAT's when we are 11. So, are your SATS the equivalent of our A-Levels?
