Don't get me wrong, it's really imaginative and looks fantastic, but I do think what is this going to offer that Swoon hasn't already?
This is a large reason as to why I don't care for anything deemed 'fantasy' because people make it all look the same. Fantasy doesn't just mean crazy, unorthodox coasters and colors. Make it mean something, or be something tangible. That can still be fantasy.
FK said this was more "surrealism" than fantasy on robbie's stream last night. And that it's doing a lot more visual tricks and illusions than Swoon, which I hope will be really cool.
@ Louis-It has a great deal of similarities, but thus far i would say is distinctly different from Swoon. As i noted on the stream, this work is meant to be more graphic, more refined, and more illusional than what Swoon offered. That being said, with Swoon as a stand alone work in Surrealism, it would be difficult to avoid direct comparison.
@nin-I hope that isn't aimed at my fantasy? I agree that sometimes the difference between what people call "fantasy" and "realism" is the difference between realistic color schemes and well constructed layouts versus crazy colors and irregular choices. That being said, the work i have released and noted as "fantasy" always includes some fantastical element that denotes it as such. Matador was not fantasy, there was nothing "magical" about it. Necromancer, by comparison, had a distinctly thought up background to it that was pretty implausible for real world expectations.
As commented, i have directly aimed to avoid this being "Swoon Again" by exploring new forms and styles, and though it may not be present in these small pictures, i would say not much was directly taken from Swoon.

Isn't that the difference between realism and semi-realism? Fantasy has to have that extra bit of magic behind it. It requires you to suspend belief, rather than just pretending that a thing (like a crazy layout) is normal.

How about this inverse?

Part of me thinks that this is too much like Swoon, and the other part of me really likes it.

I think it's unfair that you negatively compare this to Swoon. As if we haven't seen hundreds of Medieval themes, Jungle themes, Asian themes, etc., and yet we never hear people say "well, what more can this offer that XXX hasn't already?" Why is this the thought that comes up for this style of fantasy/surrealism style that FK practically invented but not for any of the boring, typical themes we've already seen hundreds of times over?
Anyway, this is a beautiful screen. Very clean lines and smooth curves, much more refined than Swoon but still within the same aesthetic. I'm looking forward to this!

I didn't negatively compare it to swoon. I loved swoon. I voted very highly on swoon and I even stated in my comment that I liked this.
I just felt that if this was too similar to swoon, it wouldn't have the same effect that swoon did. Swoon was so amazing because it was one of a kind. If this was like swoon it would be fantastic, but if it was one of a kind, it would be more than fantastic.
Opinion is opinion. Everyone is entitled to is, this was mine, FK respected it, just like I respect him and most of this community. Why is everyone so quick to jump on someone else's opinion when offering an opinion and a different aspect on something can often bring results.

I never said you critiqued Swoon; I said the doubtful comparison between this to Swoon is unfair considering that that thought never gets brought up for other themes/styles. I mean I was only offering my opinion on your opinion
After all, never have I heard someone say "well, what more can this Disney park offer that DAW, DA, Disney Sea, etc. haven't already?"
Yes, but I was jumping on your opinion of my opinion, not your opinion of the RCT
Anyway, I get what you are saying, but it's different because when someone does a generic theme over again, or a Six Flags park or a Disney park, they are, as you say, reinventing the theme.
That's what I wanted to make sure this was, a reinvention of the theme, not just the same all over again.
Yes I agree, we all hope for progress when old themes get repeated. I guess I just get bored with seeing generic amusements parks, castles and pagodas over and over so seeing something artistic like this is really refreshing. Given how unexplored this style of building is, I think it is really pushing the envelope and is ripe for progress!

Everything flows very nicely. I can't wait to see more... knowing you I'm sure it's going to be something insane.

it looks a lot like the last one of this that you posted. I like that there's a bit more on the "ground" than the last one though. Pretty cool screen.
