The history of 'De Bedriegertjes' goes back to the middle-ages. Castle Rosendael, which's estate is nowadays known as 'De Bedriegertjes', was first mentioned in the 14th century as the house of Reinoud I, Duke of Gelre. From the original castle only the round tower remains; many adjustments have been made especially in the 18th and 19th century.
The most notable addition to the Rosendael estate are the romantic gardens around the castle. In the gardens you'll find the actual Bedriegertjes (Dutch for 'the little deceivers'); a bunch of small fountains hidden in a mosaic floor, which will start and stop at random moments, to much amusement and surprise of bystanders.
In the past few decennia De Bedriegertjes has become a fairly popular destination for leisure school trips and regional recreation. In response some decent infrastructures have been developed in the park, among which is the entrance building:
Popular are the miniature train and the chairlift over one of the ponds:
In the 20's a restaurant and playground were built. Of course, the playground has been rebuilt a few times since.
Future perspective
We're facing an important decision at the moment. We can continue the slow and conservative development of the park as it is now, or we can take up the challenge to become a big player on the national market. With the current increase in mobility and average household income, this could be a real opportunity for De Bedriegertjes. The decision will be made next year.
We'll end the year with a recent satellite picture of the park and it's surroundings. At the bottom you can still some of the town of Rosendael.
"Paulism" is one of my favorite styles of realistic building. I really like what you've done here, and I'm pretty excited for what transpires if you're gonna stick with the timeline.
EDIT: Any chance you could hook me up with this (or a similar) Paul-esque bench?

Glad I could trigger some nostalgia for you. That's what this is all about, though the bench is 2005-esque in a 2005 paulism style.
