Description
Following USS Essex's 1969 decommissioning, she was purchased by a preservation group and moved to a permanent mooring on the east coast. A large land reclamation project was undertaken in order to provide the ship with a stunning backdrop.
The result of this project was the Essex Naval Memorial for aircraft carrier crews in World War II. The clean and well groomed gardens are a local pride, as hundreds of volunteers keep the gardens clean and pristine throughout the year.
Final plans for the remainder of the pier include a small amusement park. -

will this park be available for download? Also, nice job!
Why stop at Essex? Go full-on Battleship Cove.
The idea has been floating in my head of putting an Iowa class on the other side, but I'm not sure if that's what I want to do.
Looks very cool, looking forward to seeing more.
It's not, but my idea is to have the memorial itself be the focal point of the area - that's why the carousel is off to one side with seating areas and such.
Sexy. Really, really sexy.
Very good. Surely a nicer railing could be used though rather than 1k poles and trims. Maybe that's just me though.
I thought those fences looked nice here.
Also, I just noticed I missed out on a pun with my last comment.
