In terms of layout and interaction, I think it looks really good. I'm looking forward to seeing this implemented in-game.

This is implemented in game. It was implemented by Gymnasiast and merged to develop four days ago. It is not backward compatible with vanilla though.

Junior coaster steep track is such a bizarre removal from the game. Either they couldn't get their art guys to update the steep train sprites from the first game. Or they thought new coaster types would remove the need for steep track.

Always been a really odd aspect that I often contemplate.

Agreed, most removals from LL were an odd decision to be honest. I've always wondered why they removed the boosters from tracks and the different terrain textures as well.

I doubt it has to do with not wanting to produce steep slope sprites for the train. You don't draw each sprite individually, you model it and then render as many as you need. Some of the coasters in game include hundreds more sprites than they actually use, and there are some sprites that don't seem possible to use at all (e.g most of the bank-to-slope transition sprites - there's 32 angles of them but only 8 angles that such a transition can actually be built in game).

I guess Saywer felt that the junior coaster ought not to have steep track because it's a gentle ride? I don't know, I don't really understand it either - but it wouldn't be the only ride that's missing track pieces it could really do with having. I hope there will be more new pieces when the remaining rides have their track paint implemented.

Cool idea with the spiral lift and big tree. Custom supports are nice too and I like how the coaster passes through them.

Do you think you could release the RCT1 trains as a .dat? Coaster looks good btw, nice support work!

I have the two DAT files prepared but I've asked Gymnasiast to test them further, in order to ensure the friction values are compatible with the original game, as I don't have a working RCT1 installation.

If I don't get any response I will upload them here. I should point out that due to the differences between RCT1 and RCT2 sprite groups, these trains are, on average, rotated slightly left of the correct orientation for the track. There is nothing I can do about it, you just have to avoid tight turns.

I considered making custom junior coaster trains, and probably will at some point, but it is not a priority right now, as I have begun working on a different train.

EDIT: I'm told the friction is set too low, so further tuning is required. It probably won't be done tomorrow.

Since the small steep to flat piece has now been made available on the junior coaster track, I decided to make a layout to try it out. It's pretty awful because of the forest theme - I just don't know how to make trees look good - but I thought I'd post it anyway.

The RCT1 trains had to be used because the default trains do not have sprites for steep slopes. They don't look that good, I should have done a custom train.
