The glass work in this park was unreal. Not even necesasrily the large atriums, but more the one of a kind look of the crystals (they look huge in this screen, love it. Truly surreal), but also the smaller sculptures like the tower seen in the bottom left corner here. Amazing. With some more refinement and life, this park could've been the next La Reve. LLHK!
Surely we've seen some atriums before, some quite spectacular, but a crystal theme? All the weird ornaments and the giant crystals? I haven't seen those before, not in a way even remotely resembling this.
To me the comparison only applies because of the surreal quality of both parks.
Trav, I really don't understand your issue. What was "Le Reve" about this park? They have almost zero connections... one is a dreamland of a 1900s Belle Epoque umbrella maker, and the other is an underground crystal society.
And which "exact same big structures" are you referring to? There's only one large glass structure here, and it's quite different from the one in Le Reve, and I can't recall any other large glass structures that used the same building style here.
The rest of the park is stylistically very different from Le Reve - the mining, the giant crystals, the hot volcanic springs, the university and citadel, the color palette, the atmosphere, etc. is IMO unique to Arcanis and not found in any other park I've seen IIRC. I think Cocoa also commented in the main thread that he thought this was a retread of things we've already seen... but I can't for the life of me think of any park that shares these similar ideas and concepts to Arcanis. Care to point me to some?
@Liam thanks, I'm glad you liked what we built, I really wish I had the time to be able to finish this the way I wanted to. I came into H2H with a limited schedule because of school, but ended up having to devote a lot of time to make this at least presentable and ended up not working as much on my school work. I wasn't expecting to be a lead on any park but it kind of turned out that way because of scheduling and whatnot.
on paper the themes sound different, but imo atmospherically and creatively it did seem to not quite be as revolutionary as it could have been. Its definitely its own thing, but i also felt quite a bit that the park was trying to emulate the feeling that made la reve so succesful
La Reve was great, lots of diversity, lots of new, lots of really good detail which most fantasy of that level lacks. But this was just boring, still had lots of cool stuff especially with glass and landscaping, but overall just felt lifeless and flat.
@cocoa can you explain what you mean? The only thing I can think of tying this park to La Reve is my name. Literally. I think maybe you're confusing my building style with "trying to emulate an atmosphere", because to be honest I didn't think of La Reve once while building this. I don't think we were aiming to be revolutionary either, we were simply aiming to build a fantasy park with cool architecture and theming. This is just the way I build, I don't see why it feels like I'm trying to recreate La Reve when that's the furthest thing from my mind.
@g force it was peepless which was a time constraint issue which unfortunately hurt the park a lot more than we had expected it to.

One of my main issues is that it was trying to be the next La Reve. We've seen these exact same big structures with glass done before - and better.

I wished this park had more variety in architecture and a better path layout.
