you make a good point, this was really strongly inspired by DAW and some of robbie's DCA. for instance the little thing on the left is about 60% robbie's green little corner building. i'll change that. i guess that i'll make this my own somehow. the rest of the buildings are fully original though, except the idea to do such a roof for the tower
While this is very good, i'm naturally inclined to say Pac and Rob can do this style but so much cleaner. Even if it has some original buildings, the style FORCES that viewers compare it Rob and Pac's work.
I feel like, if you built this with more inspiration from other sources, or even just your own creativeness, it will result in a cleaner, smoother look. I always find the most dirty and disjointed work i make is always when i'm trying to squash it into a theme or look rather than just letting it flow.
There's a difference between 'inspiration' and taking apart someones work and reassembling it.
I remember saying to you before that you've got the skills now, you just need to make it your own. This isn't it. I mean, look at how much better Shotguns is now that he has his own style.
Like I said, this looks good, but I want to see more like what you did in Micro Madness. That looked good AND was your own style.
anyways thanks for the comments. i'll redo this whole area. though i might keep the overal shapes of the buildings, as those don't really belong to any style, and just get all of my own idea's from real life stuff instead of somebody else's work.
i appreciate the comments, and the outcome is definitely not enough my style, even more so than i thought at first glance.
Knew it was a joke, no worries haha (I lived in Vista Way when I worked there ) I agree with all comments here, saying that while it shows skill, it doesn't show YOUR skill.
please tell me that you exclaimed it exactly like they did it in the video. aside from that, here's a small thing that hopefully shows my own skill a little bit more
inspired by this
to properly make something like it i have to use the same trick robbie used in his BGA theatre, i hope you guys don't mind that, though i'll do it a bit different
The problem with this extreme American art deco style is that's it's been done to near perfection by our own resident American Rct'ers. Anything you build in that style will inevitably be compared to their work.
I'm not saying you shouldn't build that style/theme, but be prepared for people to vote it at a lower rating it should be because of the previous iterations of it.

PLEASE stop posting screens this small...even if it is just an add-on to the previous screen. It's really not big enough for anyone to judge whether or not it "shows your skills". Your buildings can be architecturally 100% solid, but they're nothing if you don't show the setting or surroundings. I can probably build world-class structures, but making them fit with their setting is another story. Also, if you're content with building something that looks nice, you don't need to ask for advice on every square inch.
I think the part that's making it difficult for people to swallow is that a lot of the detailing and methods are lifted right from other people's work. When you look at my work or Pac's work in this style, we're working on one or two degrees of separation from the source inspiration, using images of either the real architecture in California or Disney's inspiration from that architecture to develop our own interpretations of the style. Instead of that, you're adding one more degree of separation, using the RCT work as your inspiration instead of the architecture itself, naturally leading to easily-made and obvious comparisons. Take some time to really look at the real-life architecture and the principles behind the RCT work rather than the superficial detailing. That should help you forge your own interpretation and allow you to be building/designing on your own merit rather than that of others.
