The Seal Clubbers failed to get a park in, marking the first forfeit of H2H3. The anonymity rule won't do much for their season finale either, since there's only two people they can use for that park in order to avoid breaking the "must use everyone in a season" rule.
The IIIcon's park was made by the flying Germans. I mean the Germans: Magnus and Anolis. Congrats to the IIIcons, since they probably would have won anyway, but I'm sure the real Flying Germans might be a little irked at the turn of events. Still, they do control their destiny.
Definitely the better of the two room parks this week. I feel bad that we didn't put something up against this actually, because its not getting as much attention as it should imo. Anyway, awesome park guys. I think was most impressed with the NE screen object and how you managed ride interegration into the theme to keep the park RCT-ish in a sense, if that made any cents....
thanks pbob for giving me the permission to use the object. really looks cool though i don't get why it just works with two perspectives.
back to the week
i wanted to beat the seal clubbers in a regular week. i hate forfeits. we rushed like 45% of our park the last two days. participating in a contest for me means not to let down your teammates. (ok there are some exceptions i can imagine, but that's not what i want to talk about right here).
the fact that we knew who was going against this park was more like motivation to me.
the idea for the park, was really anolis and (mainly) my idea. we talked about some h2h ideas starting with a sandbox, that would have been cool aswell, but didn't give us many possibilities.
cause of that we decided to make a nursery. while starting to build i came up with lots of ideas for it and i really wanted to make it much more philosophical, but didn't have the time for it in the end. (i also wanted to make a big outside world, but there was no time for it and
(had to finish my skilled work for monday, maths exams tuesday, theoretical driving test thursday and i have/had to learn a lot for that).
some people *looks at posix* will say this one is no park, but what we wanted to show is, that rct is more than a game to create parks. what we wanted to do, is create a philosophical piece of art and this can sometimes even be harder than creating a park.
i also want to thank you anolis. you were a great help, though we both didn't have much time. your part of the nursery is just great and well excecuted. i especially love your carrera track.
thanks for the easy win. the team really needed this, but it would have been more fun to see the seal clubbers park. i'm pretty sure it'S finished so i don't see a reason that they didn't submit it.
i hope you had fun looking at our park. some more comments would be nice
I think it looks much more like a bedroom than a nursery... either way, fantastic park guys - the scalextrix set was absolutely awesome. I think, however, it may have been better had you made the track invisible apart from the loops (just the crooked house hack + a track merge). Other little things I noticed and thought were excellent were how you'd done the page effects on the books - very stylish - and the digger's pile was nice too. In terms of improvements, I would have liked to have seen the roller coaster go a little quicker, because those toys are always far too quick, and perhaps a rug would have broken up the monotony of the floor tiling.
As for the "not an amusement park" thing, for me, this is partly what H2H is for - the ideas and innovations that come with it. If you wanted to build an amusement park, then you'd start with a plus 120* bench. You could never have a section like this in a park. I mean, sure, primarily we should build parks because that's what the game's best suited to, but a little innovation here and there in competitions never hurt anybody. At the end of the day, it made me smile and I enjoyed it - and I'm sure you enjoyed building it - so if anyone argues against that then they're a fool.
No, a nursery (at least in modern England) is a place where kids/babies get dropped off for the day and looked after. Kind of like a Kindergarten, that's the german equivalent I think. Just bedroom fits what you're trying to say best I think.
btw, this week really wasnt intended to be a forfeit. We had a park finished and I don't know why it wasnt sent in...this actually fucked up our playoff schedule because now the park we had ready for this week will have to go next week.
This is really a fantastic park and I'm sorry it won on a forfeit.
I don't think RCT has to be used to make parks, and I agree that H2H is an excellent opportunity to try something new that you couldn't really do in a park. I like the idea of it, and there are some great ideas that surprised me too like the little mouse scurrying around and the boom box which plays music. But I guess ultimately the problem I have with RCT art pieces is that they just aren't that fun to look at on their own. A ride that really utilizes the surrounding is a good way to add some fun to a static sculpture. Or something else you can do is hide rides in everything which you can name so that when you move the cursor over stuff, it has little comments. I saw this IMAX film once that was just a bunch of 3D rollercoasters and one of them was this toy coaster inside of a giant bedroom. That's kindof what I'd like to see in a room theme, but then I guess that's part of the point of this isn't it? If everyone made a room theme they would all be different because everybody has different memories that stand out from childhood. Different things they remember having in their bedroom. The whole 'outside world' part of it was kind of lost on me though. There's some buildings and a truck and some land but I'm not sure what you're saying with that exactly. Anyway, I applaud the effort that went into this and I do like the idea. Thanks for trying something new instead of taking the easy way out and just building a miniature park.

Well... now you have a backup.
Anyway, I was expecting a park too, since you guys are pretty good at meeting deadlines, so I'm not sure what happened. But I checked nedesigns@gmail.com on the morning after the due date and nothing was there. So *shrug*

i somehow agree with what you have said here.
i completly missed the idea with the outside world. we can discuss about the idea itself (which was pretty good in my opinion) but it's a fact that i didn't realized it in a good way.
the basic idea was the break the borders of the room and put in a symbol for growing up and starting to work. when i had the idea i was thinking ab out a small city. starting as a modell city and being filled with life more and more by getting away of the "children's bedroom". i wanted to put in symbols fot the hard fight to be successful in normal life. the digger was meant to stand in the room but work outside, as a symbol for growing up again. the same idea with the crane. i have had many others ideas for this but we made some mistakes while starting the park which made it impossible to realize those ideas. maybe it would have been better to cancel the outside world completely, but it's a win anyways.
rct as art: i personally think there are some ways to make real art with rct and no park. i really aim at making a piece of good looking art at this point. people like posix and others might tell me again that a park is art aswell and yes this is true, but a park is mainly a park. but art doesn't have to be a park. it can really be interesting to look at such pieces of art and the can be as interesting as a normal park and maybe even more intersting.
