    i thought it was an exceptional layout for the type of coaster but the theming mostly felt filler and arbitrary to me.

    It was nice, again...lovely layout. But it did have an unfinished/empty feel to it. As if the desire for this project disappeared and it was quickly tarted up and sent in? I like the general ambiance of the design though, the reindeer trains and elf's etc add to the ride. But the station aside I agree with posix that the rest seems slightly arbitary, but this is a problem with many, many parks. 11 seems about right for a score, not quite design standard. Good job though. LLLL!

    I really enjoyed this despite the quality of themeing, it was good. The layout seemed to flow very well and the colors were great too. Anyone notice the security guard in the corner of the park named rctrealpark? Who is this Vert guy anyways, he joined back in 2002!

    Yes, that would be correct. In the midst of a research deadline but will reply to thread soon as possible. I have a lot of unreleased work that I felt was far superior to this but I wanted to dust off my skills first with a challenge: a suspended coaster. Slightly disappointed that I fell short, but I did enjoy this one [I worked on this one since Christmas]. Good to be back guys!

    I think I had the highest vote but I see why it didn't win. It was very creative and all, but a little unrefined/unfinished in places too. Better luck next time! :)

    Can anyone elaborate on where specifically this felt unfinished or unrefined? Maybe I am blind, because in the three months I worked on this coaster, every single square of the map received close attention to the point where each tree's selection and elevation was tested. That this ride received a 6 and an 8 (out of 20!) makes me want to know where this ride fell so short. I'd be scared to imagine what most of the older LL designs would received today.

    The highlighted areas for me are where the design felt sloppy and unfinished. Everything north of this was great.

    It may be a matter of preference but I would have preferred to see you theme this to the edge of the map or thereabouts around the perimeter of the rail road. Why did you only pay attention to the area within its boundary? The different textures near the train station also implied to me that perhaps it was planned to be themed here but it never happened for whatever reason.

    The entry with the expansive tarmac and willow trees, whilst nice in a minimalistic way, also seemed like filler.

    I wouldn't be too disheartened by the lower scores, from what I've seen after looking through the past few years of designs a few panellists are very hard to please (which is a good thing).

    Hope this helps clarify my thoughts.

    I agree with you, Themeparkmaster, especially the left half seems pretty unfinished.
    Moreover the left area looks bad, I'm sorry.

    i don't think the outlying parts are the problem really. overall i'd even say this is pretty much "finished". it's just what i said above already that the theming is so arbitrary and doesn't really look like anything.

    I thought it was a little of both the whimsical theming and the lack of such altogether in places. Particularly the area TPM circled on the left. Even just a bit of well placed foliage in the bare areas could have done so much for this IMO.
