This was a tough one for me, although it seems i've fallen in a similar place to a lot of others. I did feel like it deserved design, the skill level on show here was pretty high. My overall feel was that this was someone who obviously knows how to build, but this theme overall felt slightly surface level in a way? I liked everything that was there, kinda wished there was more of everything though. But like I said, more than enough skill level on show, and clean use of objects throughout to pull it off.
++ Flawless map to me, I adore your CSO work a lot but your NCSO has exactly the same charm
++ Your ride design is always great, I’ve told you this before but the forward and backwards snake is a great example on how players like you and Hex have got a really good POV when it comes to adding distinct attractions to your parks. Mato was another one, really dig your style.
+ Loved the accent objects you choose for mostly an NCSO release, the raven and witch objects just added a bit more plot and I think I could’ve said this was built by you, if I didn’t know you’d built on this.
+ The castle walls with walking knights around it was great and framed the whole park really well
-I wanted more from the rapids but I thought the placement of it was great and I loved how it framed some of the core elements of the coaster.
It was a complicated choice, two great works that feature castles and I'm a big fan of castles. The queue for the roller coaster was excellent, in the middle of the plantation. And you also made another roller coaster, which helped make the park cooler than it already is. And if that wasn't enough, you also made the FLOATING, very good. "SEXY SWIRLS" haha I loved it. Good idea with the canvas roofs.
The Roman soldiers were nice and the soldiers walking on the walls very cool. I liked everything, but what I especially loved the most was the station, which was TOP. Looking at the map in general, the roller coaster went perfectly with the environment, the choice of colors and supports created a very pleasant and clean atmosphere. nice work
As part of this series reviewing the fantastic NEDC6 entries, I will enter into a commentary on how the builders have decided to approach using Pacificoaster’s layout, and how those decisions compare and contrast one another. I encourage reading all my reviews on NEDC6 to get the most out of this more fragmentary commentary you will find interspersed here if you find this interesting or desire clarity.
What is it with this character and witches and moss? At least we know what to get AJ for christmas. A fairly modest entry with solid fundamentals, Metal Moss shows that AJ has their own defiant style. A tasteful blend of NCSO and specific CSO additions, this makes for a classic feel with a more modern sheen. The castles are tastefully composed, and the motif of the roman pillar with flowers on top is a really cute choice.
I believe the main viewing angle is “inside L”, where the cobra roll appears beneath the predrop curve. We, of course, have a path which crosses the track where the cobra roll begins and ends. This moment is nicely framed on an island formed by the rapids ride. The layout is artfully framed dancing over and under the curtain walls, providing ample context for the coaster. I don’t think it necessarily pushes the envelope, but shows good instinct nonetheless.
The rapids ride is a surprisingly harmonious supporting ride. With a final splash framed by the diagonal bridge as you enter the area, the ride provides enough interest, even if it isn’t mindblowing. I think the main thing I have to say is that I recognise the skill, but my interest isn’t necessarily fully captured.
Overall I find this to be an incredibly competent submission displaying AJ’s style and confidence. It didn’t, however, leave me astounded. I would have loved to see some of the macro ideas pushed even further to really accentuate the strengths of your style. Always looking forward to whatever you build us next.
Score: 75% except presented by a moss covered witch
This might have been one of the harder ones for me to score. I think what threw me off that I didn’t initially realize is that it seems like it’s trying to be NCSO but it has these CSO inclusions that fit in but also don’t at the same time. The overall aesthetic is distinctive and unique - particularly the different architectural elements and the foliage (I love how verdant everything feels) - though I fear this castle may not be well designed against invaders! 70%
69? Nice. This is the closest thing to a 'pure' NCSO park this contest so far and it does not disappoint.
One thing I always look for in these contests is ride interactions with the main design. The river rapids and its queue make for such a good interaction in this as they give the peeps a good view of the cobra roll. The coaster itself interacts very well with the castle wall, I love how the corkscrew travels over it and then it moves under the wall. The single-rail supports are also very nice here.
The most impressive thing about this design for me is how well it appears to break away from the grid despite it being NCSO. The diagonal walls, paths, and especially the terraforming look very nice here. I love the island that is surrounded by the rapids. The foliage is also very well done... it's sparse where it needs to be and clumped together in all the best spots; I can tell that a lot of planning has gone into this park.
Overall, this is some nice, pleasant NCSO that definitely shows a ton of skill behind it.
Classic AJ style. The NCSO foliage here is great, the use of the green garden objects to make deeper grass and transition smoothly to the taller clusters of trees make the landscape so flowing and natural.
Inside the castle I really like the design of the pathing and the rapids ride, a lot of great guest sightlines, and a nice main drop centerpiece. Overall great atmosphere, the, setting, landscaping, foliage and music all work well together.
Earth and nature meet stone and steel in AJ's medieval-themed map that mixes in some wilder undercurrents.
