First Impressions: This is a really good project and has a very unique feel to it! I love the layout of the park. I think the macro is really solid. The music you chose adds a great atmosphere to the entire project. There is also some really great set pieces that catch the eye right away. There's also great details all over this park like the crashed boat in the water, the little beer tent area, and the chair lift stations. The architecture on these is really well done.

Landscaping/Foliage: I thought your foliage object choice were really solid. I love the vibrant greens all over this park. Landscaping was kind of a mixed bag for me. There land textures you used were great throughout the entire park. The rockwork and foliage was done well in some areas like this little mountain:

Then there were also other areas in which the rockwork and foliage seemed to be pretty rushed and not really cared for. For example this riverbed seems like its missing a lot of rock details, water details, and foliage.

Architecture: The architecture was also a bit of a mixed bag for me throughout this park also. Again, there were some areas that looked stunning and really well made like the customs boats, and the big glass enclosure. I also loved this little area by the water coaster.

Then there were also a lot of buildings that seemed pretty rushed through. I found that a lot of the half diagonal buildings fell into this category. I feel like at this point we have enough half diagonal objects available to us that we can almost do half diagonals just as good as we can do diagonals.

Rides and Theming: I loved the all of the moving animals and I appreciate that you took the time to name all of them. The rides that you included were also great. I'm not much of a layout guy but I thought the water coaster flowed well and the car ride was really nice. The chair lift was also great going right through the middle of the zoo and over top of the enclosures. I loved the amount of movement that you achieved in the enclosures themselves.

Overall: I really enjoyed this project! I rated it 80%.

Babar for God's sake, what a wonderful park. I've tried several times to create a zoo but I've never managed to do a decent park, it's not easy. I'm delighted, your talent speaks for itself. Every detail is incredibly well done, the colors are perfect, the buildings have an appropriate architecture, nice and very cool. The animals in motion are super nice. The curves and diagonals are very good, the atmosphere is perfect. In short, top quality work. :D :)

I can't wait to go exhibit by exhibit with my kid, lovely work.

Fantastic work. Absolutely wonderful atmosphere, theming and architecture. Another special shout to the way the park layout breaks the grid with it's half diagonal paths & buildings. Your output and consistent quality is simply awe inspiring.

This was pretty awesome to dig through. The use of half diagonals across the board is mesmerizing but still natural based on how you laid each exhibit out. I liked the monster truck ride as well as the zipline over a zone. I wish it had more color variety, but that’s a nitpick. Very cool build.

What a stellar map. Can't wait to dive into this one, congrats on the release!

Brilliant logo as well, I love it!

What a fun map! Off the bat, the sound design hits like an awesome ton of bricks, and really makes me feel like I am a visitor at this zoo. I respect the map's dedication to natural, wooden forms while also maintaining a sense of architectural diversity and interest. All the while, the buildings combine architectural interest with believable functionality. The glass-domed habitat, in particular, struck me with its elegant balance despite its very complex form. Your commitment to the use of half-diagonals, including in the path work and the little stands that dot the map around the paths, is also commendable.

Other thing to note - the animals as custom staff members is brilliant!! I had never even thought of that application of that new function. Lastly, you did a nice job of adding some rides in the map to add visual interest, despite the fact that this is a zoo at its core. My favorite single addition to the map is the hotel, with its many half-diagonal forms near the rhinos and zebras. Such a cool building!!

    Awesome work.

    Babar, this is absolutely wonderful.

I'm a little familiar with both the area and french zoos (Vallee des Singes is a family fav on our trips!), so was very excited to check this out.

It's everything I hoped for and more. There's something wonderfully quirky and french about it. And very babar.

I love so much that you just have such a clear vision of what you enjoy building in the game and you just fulfil it without any fuss or, seemingly, effort.

I'd say this is right up there with the Yards, perhaps even eclipsing it, for off-grid building. You take the game so far away from its comfort zone yet make it look so easy.

My eyes, too, were immediately drawn to the pirate ship and that second Babar trademark - a horrifically ugly object (the skull in this case) that somehow is made to look great. The architecture here is great, the colors pop, and I just love every detail here.

I'm blown away by the inventive architecture. To reduce it down to just "off grid" is almost offensive to how well different buildings come together; to think you don't use reference images is crazy.

I think that what has sometimes held your parks back from higher scores is that sometimes the buildings have felt a little flimsy, unoccupied maybe - but there's not really any of that here. Everything seems purposeful and full of life. The new zoo objects are perfect for you since they add movement and life instead of you needing to turn to roller coasters where you don't enjoy yourself as much.

If your last three maps were all together, it would be an easy spotlight yes.

But I think you like doing it this way, and I'm just grateful we've had so much of your work over the last year.

If you do step away for a while, please come back - I'm sure the creative will reset and you'll have reasons to revisit the game!

Bookmarking this for sure for the end of year awards, this is going to be a favourite of mine to nominate.

What even is a grid lol. Fantastic work Babar, you have created such a wonderfully immersive experience here!

i'm just imagining that your game grid is on half diagonals and different to everyone else's. it's madness, this. the technical know-how to achieve such a clean final product is amazing, massive respect.

i recently went to san diego zoo, and came back and thought "you know what i'd love to make something like that in RCT, i think i could do a really good job of it"... and now the good news is that i don't have to, because you've just nailed it.

you've also managed to make each little area feel unique and have its own character, despite sticking to largely the same theme and colors. i can really imagine this being a real place, the vibes are perfect.

some of your previous work has been excellent ideas, beautifully done, but sometimes without room to breathe on a macro level. this is a definite step up in that regard, the map feels planned and almost "organically natural"... hard to describe, but you've managed to capture it.

for me this is a spotlight level park, i don't care at all that there aren't any rides, what is there is excellent. congrats on the high score, very much deserved.

The (Ba)bar has risen!!!  This map is an incredible display of what can be achieved with half diagonal shapes. This is also easily the best Zoo I think we've seen so far and will hopefully open the door for more to come.  I'm surprised that the browns don't feel as overwhelming as you would assume from the park overview.  The music is also a hit and elevates this map even further. I could spend hours listening to it while looking at this map.  The one draw back I would like to point out is that the park felt a bit lifeless with the lack of movement and peeps. This in turn made the map feel a bit too clean as well.  Elite Parkmaker is definitely deserved in my opinion. If not for this map, for sure for a few of your other maps (like tropico). I really hope you continue to be apart of the community because it really wouldn't be the same without you.

  • Description

In 1990, Bordeaux city council decided to build a zoo on a former industrial wasteland. 5 years later, Darwin Zoo opened its doors to the public. Given its popularity, the zoo has expanded over the years, including the opening of the biodome and its first hotel in 2015. In 2020, the park's cable car opened, together with the Lost Temple attraction. For its 30th birthday, the park opened a new extension with a Polynesian theme and welcomed its first pandas. The park has also temporarily closed the polar bear enclosure, which was becoming too old, and has longer-term plans to rebuild the first areas of the park currently corresponding to the southern part of the zoo. The zoo administration has also gradually closed all animal shows and decided to limit the flow of guests to avoid stressing the animals.

Do not feed the animals, do not put your hands through the fences and pick up your rubbish.

Darwin Zoo hopes you enjoy your visit!
