Francis has finalised the arrangements for his big expansion, it's nothing less than a sea lion show. The building permit said it was going to be a show building, but Catherine didn't realise the size of it until the land was cleared for it to be built. For his nature loving father, Peter the creative director did design a rather modern building for it. In addition to the sea lions themselves, a few aquaria were built on the forecourt to accomodate the collection of tropical fish Francis has brought with him.
Catherine from her part found it important to connect the addition from last year to the entrance and a path has been constructed to make access to the coaster easier. To balance things out, two kiddie rides and a bathroom block were also added to keep the park attractive for people of all ages.
Last year, the board had had enough of the family disputes that were creating tension and uncertainty towards the future of park. Something needed to be done. Carolus, the technical manager and Francis' old foreman had an idea. He gave both Catherine and Francis a task: to write out and present their personal vision of what the Lembeekse Woud had to become.
Having looked them over he invited them both to dine with him and the rest of the board in the local fastfood restaurant Ali Baba, run by the ever jovial duo of Mohamed and his wife Lucia. Waiting for the verdict on what direction the park would go in, he said 'Both'. After a moment of silence, he explained what he meant. Francis wanted the park to be a great and well themed zoo. He wanted to show the world to the visitors and take them on a beautiful tour through the wonders of nature and the wildlife it has to offer. Catherine on the other hand had more a vision of a theme park with thrilling rides and experiences. A place to escape real life and enjoy oneselves. Carolus believed both visions can coexist within the park. The space was big enough and with the plans drawn up by both a compromise was certainly possible. He said to look at the owners of the restaurant: one is Turkish and makes kebab, the other was Italian and made pizza. 'Two things that are very in common, yet so different can coexist without any issue. That is why we're eating here, to prove that exact point to you both.'
Both Catherine and Francis were convinced. The future of the Lembeekse Woud was not to be set in one hard direction, but can be a shared one. With forces combined, the plans were quickly drawn up and a vision created. Both Francis and Catherine were appointed to be head of each division but were to talk to each other and provide feedback when plans needed to be realised. Also, Peter, the creative director, was to be consulted each and every time an addition needed to be made to keep unity and preserve the look and feel of the park. So here is the rough map of what the park will become:
The green area has been named the 'Gardens of the World'-project, Francis his pet project to bring the wildife and nature this planet has to offer together in one small area. For this, he has started a foundation to help with the support of animal preservation and get subsidies to help with this goal.
Catherine's theme park will be built on the red area, and will try to offer thematical and exciting experiences to kids of all ages. Peter has already been busy drawing up plans for the next main ride which will be expected in 1987.
The blue area is currently undecided. This is reserved for possible expansion for both areas but could also receive a different kind of development or even just be expansion for the parking lot.
So now let's meet the main team behind the further development of this park:
Francis Lejeune: former soda magnate, animal lover and explorer. The man responsible for the zoo project and the Gardens of the World. Co-chairman of the board and founder of the Lembeek Foundation.
Catherine Lejeune: Co-chairman of the board, responsible for the theme park division and Francis' daughter. Next to that has an interest in tennis and loves to destroy her opponents in a match which she always compares to warfare to great annoyment of her friends.
Carolus Rap: former foreman at Francis' soda factory and now chief mechanical engineer of the Lembeekse Woud. Responsible for all things technical and infrastructure. Likes to relax best with a good beer and laughing at the government.
Peter Illamp: creative director and designer. The man who will give direction to both division's look and feel and will help create coherent themed areas and rides. Next to that has a love for the stage and silver screen and considers himself a missed opportunity for Hollywood since they keep ignoring his applications.
Great stuff, Jappy. I especially love the blue and white stadium, although the aquariums in front of it could use some more love. I thought they were some kind of ticket booths at first.
Since the park is at a watershed point, the start of its new direction, I wanted to share the map before going further. So please go and have a look around at the Lembeekse Woud, as it would be in 1985!
Two years in one update, to speed things up a bit....
1986
As mentioned before, the park now has something resembling a master plan. 1986 saw the start of part one of this realised, with the beginning of the European themed area of the nature and animal park built. To adhere to the 'edutainment strategy' (a fancy term Catherine has picked up somewhere during her USA trip), the animal exhibits were accompanied by a geological center, where visitors would be able to go underground and through special exhibits and glass walls take a look at what happens underneath the surface. For those wishing to explore the fauna of our continent, they can visit the deers, foxes, badgers and hedgehog enclosures. As can be seen, this area is a WIP, with another part to be delivered next year.
1987
Yoy oh yoy for the theme park lovers! It is time for another big ride to be added to the park! A log flume called 'Boomstammetjes' has been added to the park. Peter has given the ride the look of an old but friendly medieval castle to accompany the guests on a wet ride through the narrow canals. The ride proved to be an instant hit and even Francis has admitted to saying that this was a great idea.
But he also has his fun, as the second part of his European nature aera has been opened. This includes an aviary to show off the large collection of European song birds he has collected, an information center and souvenir building, and finally a hedge maze.
The combination of theme park and zoo proves to be a winning formula as well. The park is getting national attention and is becoming increasingly popular with schools to be organising day trips to. They can learn about the animals and nature in the morning and have a fun time exploring the rides in the afternoon. The income is getting higher and that means investment is on the horizon. In 1990 the park will celebrate its 10th anniversary. First investigations are being held and plans are being discussed. Stay tuned!
Cool additions, I like the log flume's lay-out but you might want to add some supports on the big lifthill Important question: can the visitors lick rocks at the geological centre? Asking for a friend.
The flume has proven to be a great succes and has cemented the park's ambition to build up a status as national leisure destination. Following that trend, that park needs to expand and sometimes also break with the past. Lembeekse Woud has outgrown its status as local recreation park and looking at the current course, it was time to say goodbye to Zulma, our loyal goat from the petting zoo. The petting zoo has been removed as it was felt that with the development of the nature gardens project, it would be more suitable to be relocated in the future to a different area of the park. Zulma would however due to her age no longer be a part of this. She has found a new home with Mohamed, the owner of kebab shop 'Ali Baba' who has promised to take good care of her. He also wanted us to mention that goat kebab is in promotion next week, totally unrelated.
In its place, a statue has been erected of the late Jan Pouckelberg, the last owner of Lembeekse Woud estate before its development as a theme park.
More progress, the footpath on the other side of the small river has been updated and a ferris wheel and picnic area added. Seeing how the park has pretty much used up its original space with Serpent and Boomstammetjes, this will be the direction of expansion for the theme park.
Speaking of progress, the management has decided to start phase 1 of the next area of the 'gardens of the world'-project. Quite a lot of the work has been done this season, but the first guests are expected to be welcomed next year. Also, Catherine has once again struck a deal and a new ride is expected.
1989
As promised, this year saw the opening of the next part of the zoo-project. 'Land of Origins has been opened, or at least the first part. The ambitions are larger than this, and it is expected to expand this area over the years to come. What can be found already? Guests can enjoy the giraffe and rhinoceros exhibits via the ground, but for those more adventurous, via the arial walkway. Theming has been added to make guests feel right at home in the African Savannah!
On the other side of the park, Catherine has been proud to open a new family ride: House of Houdini! When she was small, she remembered her father Francis being fascinated with the magician's story and acts, a fascination that has rubbed off on her and inspired her and Peter our designer to theme this ride to the famous mage. In this house, guests will encounter strange happenings such as staring portraits, moving floors and upside down rooms. Be careful where you step and expect the unexpected!
Next year in 1990 the park will celebrate its 10th anniversary! For this Catherine has promised something big, something exciting and thrilling. Markers have been spot in the forest and big shipments of timber are being delivered. I wonder what's next....
Lembeekse Woud celebrates its 10th birthday as an amusement park! And this was not to be passed unceremoniously. This was celebrated by a small music festival in the water theatre, that for once instead of seals hosted a number of local bands like The Radios and Clouseau presenting their latest hit 'Daar gaat ze', attracting national attention for the park and cementing its reputation as a growing leisure spot.
But the biggest birthday news is the addition of two new rides. 'Splinter' and 'Koffiekopjes', a tea cups ride. Rumours about a big new coaster in Lembeek last year have been proven true and at the start of the new season, guests could experience the terror of 'Splinter'!
For those RCT-fans, the building of the teacups ride is a copy from the one built by Ruben in a long lost save of his old RCT-Guide park 'De Dwezelaer' and is a hommage to him as his work has always been a big inspiration for me. The building has been copied from a screenshot I printed out myself years ago.
Francis is incredibly proud of his daughter Catherine's addition. Sadly, the addition to his section of the park was not ready in time and has been pushed back a year to let all the available funds go to the completion of the rides. Something that he agreed needed priority. Oh well, that means we get another expansion next year!

Love this project. I have always loved timeline parks and have always wanted to do a timeline park myself. I am curious to see where this will go .

It's 1985, she doesn't have a mobile phone. As you can see, she does have a laptop. Send her an email.

Park is looking nice so far, looking more like a complete little park than I expected. Great start.
Weird that the birdsong was playing in the main part of the park where all the rides are, but not where the aviaries are.

Supports get fixed in a future update, but didn't feel like retro-fitting that to older saves. Regarding the iicking, which rocks you wanna taste?
