Description
I got a PM from 5dave just a short while ago and he found a file for my first park that was rejected for Nitrous Oxide's failed Parkwars contest nearly a decade and a half ago.

This was wild. I enjoyed the colour wheel effect as you go through the areas. It's nice to see something so different for once when we get so much similar looking realism these days.
Some of your design choices were nice looking, overall felt a little repetitive perhaps. I did enjoy the spirit of free building that came across though, and I hope that's how it was for you. Would be great to see someone practise that more in the community.

Thank you for the comment. I agree that it has very simple themes. If I were to do it again I'd definitely change up the architecture a bit with more textures and variety, do some more landscaping so it's not quite so flat and generally do more complex color schemes for all the areas and not just a couple. When I made this park I had just learned the basics of art from a course I took in high school and I was just getting to the point where I could make work that looked good.
It was fun to make and I'm glad that a few people are interested in it.

wow, this thing is weird. cool stuff.
I sort of dig the golden area, and somewhat masochistically the invert with the stripey supports over the marshy water. has a vibe to it. A lot of this is just the same building structures in different colors in a sea of path. but glad to see it regardless
I also find the name of the park hilarious. A totally surreal piece of art-fantasy-abstraction and it still gets a 'universal studios' IP attached to it. Ah NE

Yeah. I had barely figured out the basics of RCT architecture when I made this. I took help from a basic guide somebody made where you make a four unit high floor with a floor layer sandwiched in between. Glad you like it a bit.
When you don't know what you're doing, as I didn't architecturally, you can either go simple or try a bunch of random stuff. Obviously I went for the former approach. Like I told posix, I took inspiration from an art course and before that I didn't know what to base my works on. Thanks for giving your thoughts.

huh this seems oddly familiar to me. At the very least- very old rapipo build like this too!

Why was this rejected? This is better than many of the actual entries despite the flatness. I'm a fan of all the insane color schemes that I wouldn't have expected to work, the pointy, pillar-shaped buildings, and that giant robot devil. This feels like 'rct scenery unleashed' and there's a lack of restraint here that doesn't seem to exist anymore outside of novice players; and the organized chaos as a result is glorious lol.
Are there any thoughts of getting back into RCT?

I'm glad you got something out of it. I can think of two big reasons it may have been rejected: It's not realistic in style and also I built too much stuff at an early round when I should have kept it small, in other words disobeying the unwritten rules that the park should have gradually gotten bigger. I suppose that only Nitrous Oxide truly knows the whole reason why.
I have some ideas for some designs in RCT2. Designs are about the only accolade I think that I'd be able to achieve with the aesthetics of the game having evolved so much. I have two ideas and one of them I might need some hacking help with.
I had a larger story to go along with the park but I've forgotten much of it. The statue is of a character called The Dreadlord who wants to control the flow of destiny by 'controlling the strings of fate'. It's sort of a generic fantasy story.
I don't know when I'll start working on my next release but I did vote in the NE Awards, so I'm gradually getting back into the game.
