Description
"For coaster enthusiasts around the world, the Magnum XL-200 is the ultimate ride. Situated right on the Lake Erie shore, Magnum was the first coaster ever to top 200 feet – you can see Canada on a clear day. Accelerating down its incredible first hill, Magnum reaches a top speed of 72 MPH, while rocketing you over multiple hills, 3 tunnels, and a signature “pretzel” turnaround." -Cedar Point

you're far more likely to have seen your score go up a good 5-6% based on who votes if there's only 10 voters

Incredible, that this didn't win design. Something is wrong with NE

One of my favorite releases in a long time. I'm putting it in my "Designs" folder. Don't let the score get to you, this is still way better than the majority of RCT2 work you'll find on every other website out there.

Something is wrong with every single thing according to you Version1, come on, lighten up.
I get why this didn't win design. It's a shame, but I get it. I think for a recreation of a roller coaster to win design, it must be a really great recreation of a really cool roller coaster. And although this was a really good recreation, it was still a recreation of a bland and boring roller coaster. You certainly have the skill, now go out there and build something a bit more atmospheric, fun and original.

Man, I didn't realize people hate Magnum so much. Its probably the second most important roller coaster ever, behind the Racer at KI. It started the coaster wars of the 90's and early 2000's, which probably went a great deal in saving the Amusement industry in the late 90's. I felt like it deserved a decent recreation, which I definitely think I accomplished. The fact that it didn't win an accolade doesn't bother me, the feedback and suggestions, like I said, are much more valuable.

I don't hate the coaster. I hate that it is set on concrete and doesn't have theming.

Oh god I just opened this in game and you got screwed.
Being a big fan of Cedar Point and of Magnum, there are so many little details here that really stand out and showed you spent a lot of time on this.
For example, the supports for the Catwalk that they never used but are still there, the 80's music in the queue (even though Fun TV put an end to that), the queue Switchbacks being used in exactly the way they're always used with a short wait so people have to go by the Fastlane merge point, the queue signs with fun facts about the ride... you put a lot of thought into this and unfortunately some of the things you did may have been overlooked by people that aren't big fans of the park.
Was it perfect? No... I still wish the midway and queue extended off to the right of the station but it wouldn't have been perfect either way. There were some things that didn't make sense like the air conditioner units on the roof of Magnum's open air station and the camelbacks shouldn't have flat sections on the top... Magnum literally looks like it was designed in RCT with triangular (awesome) airtime hills so there's no need to flatten them at the top but for the most part you absolutely nailed this.
Good for you for actually making it 200 feet tall too, I think the NE style is a bit small sometimes and choosing to actually make it 200 feet was a nice touch. It gave the ride a real dominating presence.
Not that it matters but 75% from me.
PS: And for the Magnum haters... I used to be like you. Then I figured out that if you tighten the living shit out of the seatbelt the lap bars don't try to kill you and ever since it's been my favorite hyper. So try that next time. I didn't think it would work either but it really, really does make the ride awesome.

Quite surprised this didn't make design. The scale, the coaster, the colors.. it all had a very classic amusement park feel, recreation or not.
Great job, Russell.

Wow, I really enjoyed this one! Never been to the US and I´m not that familiar with the Ride, its surroundings or CedarPoint in generell (well, I watched onride shots of the coasters but that hardly counts), but I really liked this despite not knowing how accurate it is!
The buildings might not have been as detailed as they were in Raptor, but the atmosphere was great within the park, everything fit together well. It´s a shame it didn´t win anything, though :/
You can watch a little video review here: (starting at 16:35min)

Honestly, there should be some sort of system for designs that get like 2 or 3 percent off from being a design where people vote yes or no if they still want it to be a design in the end. I mean, these sort of scores are just stupid.

^I concur.
A better system would be to hide the voting bar until the panel voted for it, so noone is biased by other votes.

Never heard of this ride before, but I really like its RCT-counterpart. A very realistic coaster, in a realistic setting. When I saw your screenshots earlier, my main problem was the lack of diversity in your foiliage, but I see you've fixed that, so that's good. Maybe trying a different shade of green sometimes would've made it even better. The surroundings feel like a real theme park, and the buildings all serve a purpose. That station btw is ace.
Good job, and I hope to see more soon!

I thought it was design-worthy. I didn't think it was lacking in atmosphere, and everything was very well-done and clean. A great recreation of a crappy ride. That's why you didn't win, I think, because people don't like the real ride. A shame. 65%

Thanks for all the comments guys, the feedback really means a lot.
But man, I just got back from CP, and I wish I would have gone before this was finished. There are so many things that could have been better, ahh, its killing me now. And honestly, it was probably the best ride of the day, shocking right? First row, 2nd car, it was smoother, and quicker than I remember, airtime was decent too. I guess I understand all the hate for the ride, being an arrow, but at the same time, its a classic and still a top 20 steel coaster. Sure its pretty rough, but heck its the last major ride to ever use on site hand shaped steel track, and its over 25 years old.
Maybe in the future I'll re-do some of this, just for fun. But for now, thanks for all the criticism and review, and glad (most of) you guys enjoyed it.

I think this design was overall pretty good. a bit lifeless, perhaps. solid realism though. its main issue was that it inconsistently 'felt' like cedar point. some bits had the right atmosphere and feeling and others felt totally wrong and awkward. You have to nail that in a rec

I come back to this a lot. It's so nice, especially with the custom music. Really captures the feel of that ride. Super pleasant, this massive coaster ride on the lake, and that vibe is there.
G Force Offline
Glad it can still bring that vibe to ya! Sorta fun to look back at it myself, not only because of how I've changed as a builder since then, but because the surroundings to the ride as completely different now. Outside of the coaster and general path layout basically everything has changed, kinda wild!
