Pro Tour 4. When the elite battle, who will come out on top?
Prelim #1 - Best Entrance
Please note that failure to follow any of the following rules will result in disqualification.
Pro Tour 4 Prelims
Unlike before, you won't be granted qualification if you win. Each entry is judged by the elite and must hit an average of 80% or above to gain qualification to the final round. The reason for the short deadlines is that we want to emphasise that we are looking for potential, your entry will be judged on quality, not quantity. The prelims are a showcase of talent, show us the quality you are capable of building to gain a qualification spot. Results from each prelim will be posted around 2 days after each deadline.
(1) To gain qualification an average score of 80% or higher from the elite panel is needed. (2) Your entry must meet the correct prelim criteria. In each category you will be judged on the criteria alone, you may wish to enhance this by additional surroundings, however keep the main criteria in mind. (3) You may enter as many prelims as you wish, but remember this is a contest of quality, not quantity. However, only 1 entry per person, per prelim is allowed. (4) There is no limit on how many people can qualify. If you hit the 80% mark, you will qualify regardless of where you finish in the prelim. (5) Your entry MUST be anonymous. Whilst your style may give your work away, there MUST be no mention of who has built the entry. All entries must be never seen before work. This includes streaming or posting any screenshots of old, recycled, work or new work. (6) Entries must be submitted to us by the respective deadline via our PM system.
"Nicely themed and clearly finished. The entrance itself is technically not correct as it misses turnstyles (I guess the building on the left has all the services)...I really like the little pond in front of the entrance and the pavilion on the left. Best entrance for me personally." -Six Frags
"This was stunning! I loved the inspiration that it took from Balboa Park. The architecture was gorgeous. I really loved the curved peach structure outisde of the park. Same with the glass structure by the creek. All around fantastic work and my favorite for round 1." -Pacificoaster
"A full park like this would be incredible. Lovely atmosphere and so clean." -Turtle
"Really great work, extremely high quality, full of atmosphere, only complaint was it was possibly a bit too texture heavy and a little messy in that respect which stopped it scoring higher for me." -Louis
"Great architecture and fantastic atmosphere. Overall it was the best for me. Pass +" -AvanineCommuter
"Really loved the details and atmosphere in this one. But also a bit too much for the eye in terms of forms and textures. But still the clear winner of those IMO." -5dave
"Very nice architecture all around, but the entrance itself seems poorly done and unfinished, which is the most important part in a best entrance contest." -Six Frags
"I thought this was very elegant and clean lined. I really admired that architecture and the way the path flowed. Overall this showed a great amount of talent, thus I believe the builder should be qualified." -Pacificoaster
"Really really interesting, clearly true to a vision and I like that. Deserves a place." -Turtle
"Full of high quality architecture, whilst it didn't have the same 'entrance feeling' the others had, you can't fault the quality" -Louis
"Fantastic architecture but felt dead without movement/music. Also the composition was a little iffy for me… it didn't scream "entrance" rather than simply another section of a park. The black entryway also felt forced and out of place. Talented parkmaker, and I want to see more, but this doesn't qualify for me." -AvanineCommuter
"First I couldn't really find the actual entrance, which isn't a good thing. Looked like an afterthought to an already built mainstreet rather than an entrance. Architecture was nice but entrances should be more about function and structure." -5dave
------------------------------------------------------ Average: 77.08% < 80%; Does not achieve Qualification
"I like how finished this seems to be and the entrance itself is realistically constructed, with the turnstyles, ticket sales and services. Big downside for me is the size; there could've been so much more added, like a bathroom, shops, parking area etc.. If you go for realism, then go all the way. I also didn't really like those diagonal tarmac strokes in front of the entrance. Not sure what it's supposed to be.." -Six Frags
"Although this was a bit monochromatic, I like the realistic structure of the entrance gate and the attempt to break the grid of rct2. For some reason I really enjoyed the seating and lamp post inside the park and the way it was framed by the brick wall. I can see the potential and hope to see this builder in the future." -Pacificoaster
"Nice idea but not close enough to the quality i'm looking for to be honest." -Turtle
"Loved this entrance on first sight. The structure was brilliant, it really felt like a strong entry." -Louis
"Great skills present, it looks great and I do like the diagonal ticket huts but overall it didn't strike me as engaging or exciting as I'd like. Pass for the quality of what was presented." -AvanineCommuter
"The layout itself was solid, as was the idea with the diagonal huts facing out of the center. But there's way to little space for a theme park entrance. It felt much to crammed." -5dave
"SIX FLAGS NEW ENGLAND!!" -Steve
------------------------------------------------------ Average: 74.58% < 80%; Does not achieve Qualification
"Same as with number 3. Technically it seems fine, but there could've been more added to this entrance. I also didn't really like the windows over windows and the color scheme (even if it's realistic, it could be more aesthetic imo)." -SixFrags
"This was another stunning prelim entry. The music helped indeed. I just felt transported to this merlin park with its charming atmoshpere. Incrediby cohesive and warm. Loved it." -Pacificoaster
"Deserves a spot based on quality but I would have liked to have seen more." -Turtle
"My favourite of the bunch because it really captured the Alton Towers entrance perfectly, like as perfect as you will get. The atmosphere was incredible as the custom music really lifted this. It goes down well with me because i'm always at the park" -Louis
"Great atmosphere. Simple but believable. Pass." -AvanineCommuter
"IMO the second best entrance of it. Felt really simple and charming. It was very inviting to me. The music added a lot to it." -5dave
"I like the quantity, but the quality is not on the same level imo. Also technically a bit confusing, as the shop (if that's what it is) is leading right into the park. Bit of a monotone colour scheme with all the brown, white and black roofs. I like the little ponds tho." -SixFrags
"I admired this submission quite a bit. The architecture wasn't entirely strong but the atmosphere was there for sure. I loved the train bridge and seating area with the red awnings. Furthemore, I enjoyed the terraforming and foliage greatly. Great job." -Pacificoaster
"Nicely executed, but not enough actual ideas or vision to carry this up to getting a spot." -Turtle
"Again, really high quality, but lacks the spark to boost it higher. Deserving of the 80% - but not much higher, shows great potential though" -Louis
"great composition but the architecture was uninspired and monotonous. More attention to detail would push this into qualifying for me." -AvanineCommuter
"Also a very believable entrance with all the details there. But on the other hand it wasn't as inviting as it should be. More colors and forms would have helped." -5dave
------------------------------------------------------ Average: 72.50% < 80%; Does not achieve Qualification
"Nice couple of buildings, but clearly unfinished and I'm not sure where the actual entrance is.." -SixFrags
"There wasn't too much content on this map but what was there was fantastic. The architecture was stunning to me. If there was a full park of this I believe it would be incredible. Easily worthy of being a part of the Finals in my opinion. Kudos." -Pacificoaster
"Almost the opposite to the last entry, nice vision but not enough or not well executed to carry it." -Turtle
"I couldn't find the entrance in this, that's the main reason why I voted low for this, the quality also, to me, isn't as high as the other stuff as it is a bit all over the place, it just didn't hit the spot for me." -Louis
"This was not an entrance for me. The architecture looked like it could be good but overall it doesn't really mesh well for me and was confusing. As a section of a park it could work, but this was not an entrance." -AvanineCommuter
"While this was very nice and colorful, it didn't really felt like a entrance. It was more like a small corner of a park with shops and a small bottleneck. Too small for a realistic entrance, even too small on the RCT-scale." -5dave
------------------------------------------------------ Average: 65.00% < 80%; Does not achieve Qualification
"I like how the coaster interacts with the entrance, but the unfinishedness of the entrance itself is a bit of a let-down (roofs missing and the bit after you enter the park)" -SixFrags
"This was very unique in comparison to the other entries. I could just imagine walking up to the main gate and seeing that cobra roll. Such a cool idea. The architecture was also very neat with its use of monorail. I can see the potential with this park therefore, I believe the builder deserved an 80." -Pacificoaster
"interesting, but not quite there yet. Would love to see more from this person and for them to get a place." -Turtle
"Loved the idea here, as well as the structure, just the colours really ruined it for me. It just wasn't outstanding for me." -Louis
"Great use of monorail track, unique architecture and great color scheme. Interaction with the coaster was done well, but overall it felt like a very awkward entry plaza and the circulation flow just wasn't there. I look forward to more from this creator for sure!" -AvanineCommuter
"Loved the supporting ideas like the cobra roll implementation (were rides even allowed?) and the monorail station. Plus the entrance structure itself was colorful and interesting. Third place for me." -5dave
------------------------------------------------------ Average: 73.75% < 80%; Does not achieve Qualification
"Same as with number 5, lotsa quantity, but not as much quality.. Bit of a boring colour scheme with all the brown and dull red, and only used one texture (the brick).. It makes the whole a bit monotonous and boring to look at. I like the idea of an entrance to a train station tho.." -SixFrags
"The concept for this entrance was very cool but the execution wasn't too good. I really enjoyed the waterfalls on either side of the NE station but there was simply to much blocky/flat/sterile architecture that detracted from the entire composition." -Pacificoaster
"wow, dream big! but unfortunately not enough quality, and that is what we've been told to base scores on. Interested to see more, though." -Turtle
"Massive entry, but just not meeting quality for me, still well done on creating an entry, hopefully you'll make more" -Louis
"Good job for the quantity, the quality was too low for consideration though." -AvanineCommuter
"I dunno, the structures were much too big for me. Also they felt rather boring. Landscape was nice but also a bit too much. Too over the top for realism & semi realism, too tame for fantasy." -5dave
------------------------------------------------------ Average: 61.25 < 80%; Does not achieve Qualification
^Yeah, apologies for that, we didn't think so many voters would comment and so we weren't expecting to put anything out like this. I guess all you voters now know that any comments will be posted
Congrats to Airtime and Cocoa, great work and of course well deserved placement into the finals!
I knew that was FK's entry right away, your style is so strong and recognizable. I know you'll definitely make it into the finals if you keep doing what you're doing.
I was surprised by Shotgun and JJayMForce's entries, both were definitely very impressive.
A little disappointed with Maverix's entry and just a little confused by Fizzix's. I know both of you are fully capable of great work, these two entries didn't do it for me though.
Don't really know Proest's work, but I definitely appreciate the submission. Looking forward to another soon
Just to point out, the entries aren't ordered by how they scored, they are ordered by the order we recieved them in. There are no winners, just qualifiers.
Big congrats to Cocoa and Airtime for qualifying, unlucky to the others, a lot of you came really close.
Great job, guys!
I really had no idea who did what. I was really surprised by the quality of those!
To all the others who didn't make it - looking forward to other prelim entries from you!
Agree with the comments on my work, I still like the idea of a train which brings you to the real entrance (based on DisneyWorld Magic Kingdom with the boat and stuff offcourse). But while building I learned that is very difficult to keep such a building interesting, also the deadline made it kinda hard I wanted to make it all more detailed but time you know.
I will definitely build for other premlims, I will fixate more on details and less on scale.
Congrats Cocoa and Airtime, both of your entries look amazing! ( I wonder what the music is in Airtimes) Thanks guys for the comments, and I can now see how high the bar is at least.
I actually think all the entries show a lot of promise, so don't give up!
Edit: Oh, and thanks to Liam, Louis, and Posix for managing and making an awesome contest, those who did the aerials, and to the judges. It's a really nice looking set up too guys and very nice job.
Thanks for your time judges. I couldn't put myself into this 100% once I started, hence both the quality gap and unfinishedness. Expect to see better things in following rounds!
Congratulations to Airtime and Cocoa, not surprised at all! Really nice work by Shotguns?, FK and Maverix as well. Can't wait to see the next one!
Amazing, I think it was just the right amount of stuff and the quality of things was immense of course! I really liked that one cage and the way you used objects for your archy. The foliage was incredible, that was spot on. Also I really think this architectural style is rather new which is always a plus. But I don't think many people doubted you'd make it to be honest. Good luck! By the way I would've moved the carousel a little further back. When the guests enter the park give them space and time to breathe and take a good look of the beautiful skyline/atmosphere. Don't destroy that by putting that carousel so so close to the entrance gates.
JJayMForce:
I thought your entrance was great and I might have given it 80%. I feel what really let you down was how little you had. Sure, you had the entrance building, but I think had you added a square or something like that behind the entrance you would've made it. The quality was there, just the quantity didn't cut it for me.
Shotguns:
Wow man, great stuff, would've really thought you'd make it with that. Again though, sooo sooo close, also WHY NO PEEPS/WHY NO MUSIC/WHY NO LIFE? Atmosphere could've been twice as good had there been movement! I thought the archy and everything were incredible. What held it back though is the fact it's really reminiscent of Cocoa's screens from a couple of months ago. Better luck next time dude!
Maverix:
Also really really nice, but I think the backside of that entrance could've used some of the red awnings that the front has. Also same for you, WHY NO MUSIC/LIFE/PEEPS???
Good landscaping overall and a nice composition, I didn't like the archy behind the entrance enough for 80% though.
Airtime:
I liked it but to be honest I thought some of the others simply had bigger/more imaginative stuff, no offence. I think this would've been between 70/75% for me basically because what was there just wasn't all that much and it doesn't seem as creative as I'd have personally liked it to be. The detail level is fascinating though, the colors are awesome and the music adds SO SO much life...life that some of the other entrances needed. Good job, as I said just could've been more interesting rather than something safe.
Fizzix:
Your's seemed unfinished and a little too busy in my opinion. Should've been way bigger and a lot more inviting simply with the layout. The entrance was way too tiny in my opinion and the archy's scale as a whole was too small I'd say. I think you should've concentrated on a clear concept for this prelim. Keep up the work though, maybe other rounds will fit you better!
FK:
That's some awesome and very creative archy, I really liked that. Could've made for a great entrance had the whole composition been as creative as the archy itself. I think you basically took interesting architectural ideas and put them on a boring flat surface with little else to see. The archy was daring but everything else seemed way too safe (not taking the coaster layout into account). I think the Cobra Roll was cool of course but it's not exactly a groundbraking element placement after more than 10 years of NE. Overall a lot of potential but I think you should've went deeper with it. A nice surrounding landscaping would've been great here (thinking of something fantastical->non realistic approach)
Proest:
I really really really liked yours, the idea is brilliant! I thought it'd be good from the overview and I still think it is after having viewed it ingame. The life, charme, atmosphere, fun factor this has is something most of the other entries can't cope with in my opinion. The layout and creativity level are brilliant, what held this back though was the execution of the archy. I think for today's NE standards this just isn't detailed enough. Stuff like this would definitely get you an NE accolade but not one with 80% or more due to the "underdetailed" (from today's viewpoint) archy. But I really liked it and if you enter more rounds and use the same level of imagination I'm sure your name will be a lot more popular soon.
I just realized I forgot to read the readme's, so my apologies to cocoa, as I read his entrance is supposed to be free-to-public so turnstyles wouldn't be needed
It makes the park reading that readme even better! Great job cocoa, undoubtedly the best this round and I'm sure you will do well in the main contest! Gratz (also to airtime!)
I'm surprised by shotguns. I really loved the architecture in there and didn't expect you to have made it (as I'm a bit unfamiliar with your work). I'm sure you'll nail the architecture round!
I expected a bit more from maverix tho.. He really is on fire lately and that entrance isn't really in the same league quality wise as what I've seen recently from him..
Surprised by Jjaymforce and proest.. With a little more polished work I can see you doing well in future rounds.
@ ][ntamin; I also was surprised by the small scale these entrances were. It made it hard to judge them for me personally. I think it has a lot to do with small amount of time they had to construct it. For the time they were given I think they did well tho!
I'll add my thoughts on the winners right now and later add in the rest.
Cocoa: Atmosphere simply wreeked from every possible orifice that this entry had. It was by far felt the most complete of the entrances as the composition felt full and finished, everything that needed to be there was there. I love the way you did those columns as well. Overall it definitely deserves a spot.
Airtime: All the playful, bright colors grounded by the black rooves worked wonders here, beautiful atmosphere almost thwarting cocoa's. Music made it for me, fantastic. Worthy of the spot as well. I felt like I could really be there which is a rare feeling for me.
Really nice, you two.
I should probably explain how mine wasn't a traditional park entrance by any means, its supposed to be this once abandoned but gentrified area of paris and decided to make a little city park out of that, the composition was purposely made like that.
All around these were pretty excellent and already setting the tone for how prestigious this contest will be. Good job to everyone for submitting, and congratulations to Cocoa and Airtime for qualifying! Cocoa, well done on building one of the best entrances I've ever seen. I hope to see a finished entry from you in the finals of this quality!
I really like that Six Flags entrance, well done JJay
But I think it could have benefited from even just two or three more tiles all the way around. The only thing that really bothered me about it was how you left the space under the paths visible. Other than that it was really clean and well done
Really liked Coco and Airtime's too, congrats on getting through

What the Judges Say:
"I like how the coaster interacts with the entrance, but the unfinishedness of the entrance itself is a bit of a let-down (roofs missing and the bit after you enter the park)"
-SixFrags
"This was very unique in comparison to the other entries. I could just imagine walking up to the main gate and seeing that cobra roll. Such a cool idea. The architecture was also very neat with its use of monorail. I can see the potential with this park therefore, I believe the builder deserved an 80."
-Pacificoaster
"interesting, but not quite there yet. Would love to see more from this person and for them to get a place."
-Turtle
"Loved the idea here, as well as the structure, just the colours really ruined it for me. It just wasn't outstanding for me."
-Louis
"Great use of monorail track, unique architecture and great color scheme. Interaction with the coaster was done well, but overall it felt like a very awkward entry plaza and the circulation flow just wasn't there. I look forward to more from this creator for sure!"
-AvanineCommuter
"Loved the supporting ideas like the cobra roll implementation (were rides even allowed?) and the monorail station. Plus the entrance structure itself was colorful and interesting. Third place for me."

What the Judges Say:
"Same as with number 5, lotsa quantity, but not as much quality.. Bit of a boring colour scheme with all the brown and dull red, and only used one texture (the brick).. It makes the whole a bit monotonous and boring to look at. I like the idea of an entrance to a train station tho.."
-SixFrags
"The concept for this entrance was very cool but the execution wasn't too good. I really enjoyed the waterfalls on either side of the NE station but there was simply to much blocky/flat/sterile architecture that detracted from the entire composition."
-Pacificoaster
"wow, dream big! but unfortunately not enough quality, and that is what we've been told to base scores on. Interested to see more, though."
-Turtle
"Massive entry, but just not meeting quality for me, still well done on creating an entry, hopefully you'll make more"
-Louis
"Good job for the quantity, the quality was too low for consideration though."
-AvanineCommuter
"I dunno, the structures were much too big for me. Also they felt rather boring. Landscape was nice but also a bit too much. Too over the top for realism & semi realism, too tame for fantasy."

Did not know if we commented they would be added here. I will have something to say next time.

I did not realize how small-scale we were talking here; I built an entire entry area.

Big congrats to Cocoa and Airtime for qualifying, unlucky to the others, a lot of you came really close.

Great job guys!

I actually think all the entries show a lot of promise, so don't give up!
Edit: Oh, and thanks to Liam, Louis, and Posix for managing and making an awesome contest, those who did the aerials, and to the judges. It's a really nice looking set up too guys and very nice job.

congrats for everyone who entered, all were great, and especially to cocoa and airtime for getting in

Xeccah Offline
Really nice, you two.
I should probably explain how mine wasn't a traditional park entrance by any means, its supposed to be this once abandoned but gentrified area of paris and decided to make a little city park out of that, the composition was purposely made like that.

But I think it could have benefited from even just two or three more tiles all the way around. The only thing that really bothered me about it was how you left the space under the paths visible. Other than that it was really clean and well done
Really liked Coco and Airtime's too, congrats on getting through
