wow thanks for all the great replies! especially about the color, that's really what I strive for in all my work. all of these comments have really inspired me to jump back into the game, and post some more screens! I've got a lot to show from this entrance area.
@whoever mentioned something about this as a recreation (fuck that would be a lot of work, there are like 2 pictures online of this park): it is not, although the general layout/style is inspired by six flags mexico. You can see a bit of it in the sign there, although I'm thinking of changing that (or even dropping the six flags brand).
So far I have two coasters; a boomerang (El Nino) and a very- Medusa inspired woodie (as yet unthemed). the woodie layout is not a recreation of medusa, but I tried to keep it in the same style, with the sort of funky turnarounds and drops, and sort of old-school twister layout. hard to explain. anyway, I like it
and yes, I was rapipo. sigh
oh right, about the flag- that was sort of a placeholder until I could figure out something better.
oh right, a request: It would be great if someone could help me to do backlot bits. I suck so fucking bad at them, I was considering just cutting off the map behind the buildings so I wouldn't have to do them . Maybe not just yet, but once I start getting a little more done it would be awesome!
^^I think I meant backstage bits, you know the stuff behind buildings with trash cans and shit and maintenance areas. its really the hardcore realism stuff that I can't do.
from my african ll park. don't get me wrong, i haven't done rct in months, i just felt it was time for another screen. i really have inspiration to get going again... but then when i open my computer, my super-laziness kicks in and says "nah man, it can wait... look, theres a link to failblog!"
I feel like I've seen this screen so many thousands of times. Pretty disappointing against the earlier LL screens in the thread. I guess it's technically very good--I'm just bored with it already.
^I was going for "too much stuff" so I guess that worked out.
@ma: yah I see what you are saying. but my favorite type of ll is a more classic style, without all this super-hackedy stuff, and i find it very hard to differentiate my themes while still keeping them good-looking and with that rustic charm
Something I've wanted to realize as I've become more familiar with LL is that so much has already been done, yet there's so much opportunity to do more. With Codex, Beast, 4cars, and other trainers, you have the opportunity to really try new things, to push the game beyond what's been done. I tried too much to emulate the "greats", like Natelox, RRP, and Scheussler, but I realized that the best way to emulate them was not to copy their stye, but to convey the same points they exhibited. It's not about plain brick buildings, but about organization and composition, or about juxtaposition of elements. I think your work would excel even more if you took the concepts behind the style to heart rather than just the style itself, because, while your work is quite excellent, it just doesn't feel very fresh at the moment, and I know you can make it that way. Please don't think I'm putting your LL work down, as it is quite excellent; I just think that you rely more on the superficial aspects of the classic styles rather than the ideas and principles behind them. I'm not saying that you need to be super-hackedy or anything like that, but the texture combinations, the themes, the colors, and the foliage are all very similar and it brings down your work. Sometimes know that the best hacks are the ones you can't see, or don't realize, where you innovate without gimmicks.
^good point. not sure how to take it into account though, as some of that is just based on your individual style... this is my style and I think I would have trouble changing it, even if it looks too similair. i don't set out to emulate those people, although i take inspiration from their parks- i think the general way that i like to work just reflects them.
