For the Rct2.com January Road Rally Competition the goal was to build the best Scandinavian park with a mini coaster and a bobsled using the provided workbench. Anyways, I finally won with Xcoaster International's: Scandinavian Journey, making this my first win in any RCT competition.

As always, comments are greatly appreciated.

Congratulations with the win. The park looks great.

One thing. The colors of the drop tower don't go with the rest of the park at all.
  • Xcoaster%s's Photo
Yeah, but the drop tower is "Northern Lights", so it had to be colorful.

I like the drop tower...overview looks interesting...downloading now.

Now that I know what the drop tower is, I say that it looks pretty good.

I think the architecture is a bit large...but the landscaping is nice. The park is far from flat.

The buildings look flat, and blocky.

Well, the archy in the back half of the park is a little blocky since Viking architecture isn't that interesting. That's also why there are a few great big buildings back there. However, if you're refering to the buildings in the front half of the park, that's entirely my fault. Either way, I don't think my archy was that great in this park, since I was trying to make it similar to the real thing I wasn't very liberal with my designs.

BTW, is anyone having any trouble downloading this? Because just after I started this thread Rct2.com seemed to die.

I haven't tried to download it so I don't know. I will try and see if anything happens.

why is every 'scandinavian' park full of snow?

Scandanavia is usually associated with snow. Scandanavia is almost in the arctic cirlce.

It's good to see that Canada isn't the only country in the world that is stereotyped as always being cold and snowy. Hope you guys up in Scandinavia get more than 5 days of summer too ;)

Kiddo...that's an interesting avatar you got there...is that a native species to Finland?

Some people have no regard for loading times *glares at Moon and Kiddo* :p

If more snow theming means the stereotyping of a whole latitude, I don't mind :D

    LMAO! I wish it were.....

We actually have all of the 4 seasons, winter just seems to be the longest. Besides, you dont have to all ways make the park remind of our landscape/wather here in scandinavia. There are many famous things that orginate from here exmp. Saunam, which you could somehow integrate in yoor park. Really should study what this place actually is, rather than just throwing in some snow and call it scandinavia.

He has studied a bit, just look at the church, the long houses, the northern light-thingie, the little Hamlet building etc.

yes, but most of the parks that have a 'canadian', 'scandinavian' or any other 'northern' theme, is full of snow.

First, the snow thing. Yes, I know it isn't that snowy all the time up there. But we had to have a bobsled ride, and that made more sense if there was snow. And I tried not to overload the snow too much, though I still did a little. If there had been any birch trees included with the workbence I probably would've included many more of those and a lot less snow. Also, if you want to see the "no snow" approach, the runner up park, "Madsen Valley Estate" might be your cup of tea. It's also more realistic and has naming appropriate to the language.

And I did try to do some research, but I can't say I was especially successful. First of all, I couldn't find much on architecture or things to base the rides on, other than what I already knew. For example, I really wanted to get a good theme for the bobsleds, but I couldn't find anything even related to bobsleds, so I just went with the typical "in general" approach. Although the northern lights might have worked for it too. And for saunas, I do have a small sauna building by the bobsled station, but I couldn't really think of any good attractions for a sauna, other than making a sauna "spa" area, but I didn't have a lot of room for that.

Regardless, thank you for the comments.
