Thanks for the comments. Get home properly tomorrow so can reply to all your comments. But Metropole that really isn't how the hack works I'm afraid. there is a very limited number of ways this can work. I shall show you guys how it's done tomorrow
Levis... Sorry it's not up to your crazy ass insane ride standards. but I wanted this hack to be more just part of the back story

Guessed as much. As I say, disregard that point, all my other points still stand. Interested to see how it was done.

And 5dave, wasn't a version of that coaster image on spartan's sig? Awesome logo though.
timing, merging, track invisibilitizing ( ), and all that stuff.
yeah...what he said.

First things first. This hack is extremely easy and requires almost no knowledge of hacking. All you need is a copy of the game and a trainer to remove clearances.
Here's a quick example. In this image the train disappears from the blue track and reappears on black track. This is the exact hack use for the first 2 portals in this design.
To do this all you need to do is
1) Build the black track first. Using in this case an S-Bend as the transition element (It works with almost any track piece)
2) Build the blue track through the black track making sure the S-Bend starts on the exact same square as the the S-Bend on the black track.
3) send the train through.
That's it. Somehow this tricks the game into thinking that the S-Bends are the same piece of track and the ride jumps from one track to the other. As I said it works with other elements like corners (3rd Portal in Design) and Corkscrews (4th and 5th Portals). The important things are The track the train exits on must be built BEFORE the track the train arrives on and The 2 track pieces (S-Bends here) must start on the same square).
Now time for some replies
Thanks. I know this ride isn't for everyone. But it fulfils something I have wanted to do for a while. I tend to use my designs to showcase concepts (War Of The Worlds and Battlestar for example) and my parks for my real work.
Thanks very much the cake shop was Loopys idea I think.
Thanks. Neither had I until I did it completely by mistake in Pinball Wizard.
You ain't seen nothing yet. I have better to come very very shortly.
haha thanks. guess it's nice to be a god of something. I always hoped it would be God of Bra's or God of Beer... this will do though
I must admit until a few weeks ago i really wasn't at all happy with this design. However my usual reliable group of testers help me loads with this and I took on their suggestions and changed a lot.
So RCTCA, Milo, Kumba, Robbie92 and Loopy please take a bow.
Thanks very much and as others have said above about the logo I agree. I'm always thrilled when I see I have 5Dave doing a logo for one of my projects and he excelled here.
Thanks for the comments. I hope the spiel about the hack at the top of this post answers why some of your suggestions wouldn't work. In reply to the outside bit I took a bit of an odd direction with this and at points I didn't really know what I wanted. I think this came out a bit too much in the end and without the testers I don't think I would have got back on track.
The original idea was for the portal hack to take a bit of a back seat and the only bit which would be impossible in real life. The ride would start with a dark ride section and end with a normal coaster (Like several rides do in real life) But this ended up not really happening. That version of things was deemed too boring and too sterile by people who saw it.
In the end I added more sections to the Lab and made it a bit more like the game. This inevitably ended up making it seem a bit more confused. (In one version there was even a full sized mock up of the Borealis, The ship seen at the end of Half Life 2: Episode 2)
Anyhow I hope that at least answers some of the thoughts from above

Thanks as always for your help during this design. And cheers for the comments.
You won't have to wait too long
Thanks very much. I hadn't really realised it was 10 until I saw the write up. And if you don't use LL then go and install it it doesn't take up much space.
I agree. I had completely forgotten you could do custom soundtracks in LL until RCTCA reminded me.

Right I have made it back home so can finally get on with this post

To elaborate, this is the same concept that allows merging to work. It's been done for years with single tile pieces, but I could never make it work with multi-tile ones, so this is certainly an interesting find.

overall i get the feeling that this would have turned out better in rct2. this is coming from a massive fan of LL, so no element of prejudice.

However since this was made before portal 2 I don't understand how you can really take that into account. And if it was how in the world would you yourself have built in underground?

Congrats again on the design Roomie. I love the way you pulled off the hacks. I stumbled on it a long time ago while working on DRC (so yes it can be done in RCT2), but never thought of good use for it. I really can't think of a better use of it then what you did here
