Well another lackluster round in the books. I'm blaming it on the lengthy Prelims...although I do expect a pretty heavy Bonus Round since it's the last chance for people to really impress me for an extra spot, besides just winning. Anyways this week, ride6 delivers a modified Mala-coaster, taking the Psycho Speedway rides and altering them as well as putting them in a nice Asian setting. Definitely the better of the two entries we got...congrats to ride6, I was definitely hoping you'd enter the Prelims. Good luck in the finals, you belong there.
Secondly....poor Trav. Thanks for entering again, but I'm running out of things to say about you . Good luck in the future trav...you certainly are making a case for the bonus spots if nothing else.
ride6 : VERY MUCH like Mala's Psycho Speedway, but different in its own. I liked the lighter asian theme...different from the dark ones we're used to. Very nice, and good job.
trav: I liked the station a lot, but the ride itsself was too entangled and too short. Wooden duelies should be far bigger and longer. Good try though, and keep it up...you're getting better and better.
ummm... I hated ride6's entry. It was horribly unfinished, and the coasters didn't have really any flow. The duels they did have were poorly timed, and not really all that close (except the inversions). The ending was boring, and it went through the last inversion way too slow. As far as theming goes, there was basically none. I think I counted maybe 5 buildings, none of which showed any character or detail.
trav's entry was still very unfinished, and barely took up a quarter of the map, but imho, it was done much better than ride6's entry. I'm a sucker for wodden coasters, especially when they're dueling. The layout was better, and more compact, and there were more "exciting" buildings. Not the greatest thing every, but much better, imo.
Hobbes, Look at those builings again. Most of them took over and hour and I did research on traditional Japanese architecture to find common traits. Things such as elevated floors and generally wooden construction with paper walls were all incoorporated.
The coasters don't duel except for in the inversions, and the last inversion isn't meant to be fast, it's going into a break run for gods sake. Oh and if you love wooden duelers I've only done them 5 freakin times in the last 3 years and my best example can be found in WoC.
I used the Pyscho Speedway style launch to attain the speeds I wanted without building skyscrapers intead of coasters. Sure there are other ways involving hacked lift chain speeds I could've done it, yippy. I only did that 3 weeks ago in Banana Valley. I'm sorry I offended you Hobbes with an entry that was actually something a bit different from my "usual".
Sorry if that seemed a bit too, um, direct. It was rushed, there aren't that many buildings, woopydoshit. Look at the park not the name.
ride6
Edit- No offense to Trav though. His entry failed because why the coasters had a couple nice moments they missed two of their dueling points by wide margins and the architecture failed to display a clear theme. They were the normal 2X2s decked out with 1/4 tile belconies and little castle fences. Toss in some canvas and music and you're set right? If Trav had gotten the coasters spot on with the timing and the architecture was more organized and thought out this could've been a real contender since all my entry was is a glorified landscape with coasters and a 1/2 dozen buildings.
I think this wasn't even "close" but then again I'm bias (obviously).
Kinda close, but I think ride6 is worthy. His dule was neat, his coasters are getting strange, but still enjoyable. I did not care for the landscapeing, tho I can say the same about trav's entry. trav is getting better, but just nothing was above avarage in his entry.
Also ride6 the white coaster should have been bule to fit with the red one, thats the "in" thing to do
ride6: I love it. Definitely one of the better pre-lim winners there has been. The ride was very fun to watch and the landscaping made for a great atmosphere. I really liked the fort and it was overall just a very good entry. Lots of little details that are so obscure they look like they're part of the landscaping. It fit together well. See you in the finals.
Easy bud, I was just voicing my opinion. I'm not "offended". I just didn't like the park.
--
Looking over it again, I guess the buildings are a bit more detailed than I gave you credit for. Still, I doubt each one took over an hour. On the positive side, I loved the little pathways near the water farms.
But I didn't like your entry for the most neither. The coasters were really good, and deserved to beat mine, but there was something about the archy that I didn't like.
My entry was horribly rushed. I decided I was going to enter it at the last minute. I started it on the Wednesday, and I finished it in 2 days because I thought that it had to be in for the Friday (Yes, very stupid, I know). But I'm surprised no-one has pulled me on what it was supposed to be, a copy of Universals Caymen, but it went wrong. I think this shows how much I have improved though, since no-one has any real picks at the park other than the coasters timing and ride6 having a go at my archy not having a definate theme. Thats another thing, you may not see medieval in this, but I do. I am very surprised that no-one has had a go at me about the foliage so far, that is a definate plus for me, because thats usually the main thing people complain about in my work.Oh, and sorry about the music, it goes off timing when you look away, and I don't know how to fix it.
didn't like either of the entries too much and i'm quite unsure about the result.
ride6 ok the coaster was better, but there are some parts i don't like. for instance the long straight piece of track. also both coasters were often running the same track, just that the one or other curve was the other way round. overall i guess the layout was above average. nothing special, still better than the other coaster, but we have seen you doing better.
- the landscaping was good aswell. very flowing, just didn't give me a japanese feeling (beat me posix if i'm wrong). same goes for the treeing. - the architecture was good if not even great, but i would have liked to see some more buildings. still i think you can build those pretty fast. - the colours were the biggest minus for me. the blue and white didn't work with the landscaping. the green flowers did't work with anything for me. and some buildings didn't fit to the coastercolour aswell.
so the main problem here was that everything was great, but nothing really fit together. Also i don't get the name.
trav the coaster was not really duelling for me. there were 2 good duelling points but otherwise there are just two coasters next to each other. i'd also say there is a lack of atmosphere, which is mainly cause of the poor colours. also disliked the fench arround the flowers. makes them look very strange. the archi was ok, thought nothing special. still it's one of your best works and you are improving. the naming was really poor. shops should be named aswell. good luck with getting into pt2
Divine Winds- though it was very similar to Mala's Physcho Speedway, it had mainy differences on the layout and the theming gave it a completely different feel. The archy here really gave me a great asian feel so did the landscaping. I wasn't that big of fan of the layout but the archy really pleased me, with the atmosphere it brought off.
Excalibur- this is definitely your best entry in the compo to this day. I really like the station a lot. I really wasnt a fan of the layout because it had barely, if any duel spots. The foliage was another thing i really didnt like and is definitely one of your weakest parkmaking points. Though it is great to see how much you are improving!
I started an entry just after i came second in the invert round and there was the mix up with my suspend entry (still kicking myself) unfortunately, I've been on vacation for 3 weeks so haven't had time. Just hope my suspend comes through in the bonus round.
Good job Ride6, ill check it out later. Unlucky again Trav.
Divine Winds-ride 6 Really great job here. The coasters were insane and dueled very nicely. All of the landscaping and foliaging was top notch, and the architecture felt very "asian", so to speak. Great job. I wish I could build at your speed.
Excalibur-trav Well...Your architecture is getting better. The coaster was poor, there were only 2 or so duel spots, and the timing was bad on those. I didn't understand how this could be medieval at all. I mean, marble, wood, and that brownish texture get overused enough trying to portray different themes, and this was nothing near medieval or Slob's medieval section in IOA Cayman. The foliage lining the paths was awful, it was too consistent, predictable, and didn't flow at all. I will say, though, that I did enjoy some of the foliage nestled into the landscape at the edge of some of the coaster. Well, good job, I guess. You're improving and probably have one of the bonus spots wrapped up. Although I don't agree with someone getting in for submitting 7 half-assed entries (not that trav's entries are half-assed for him) and coming in last every time, just because of their effort. I mean, there are probably other parkmakers that chose not to enter every other event due to not wanting to turn in something crappy and small, and would rather enter every fourth or fifth event and come in with something strong and pull 2nd or 3rd. Yep, it sounds like these people like Steve, or Chapelz, or even Yeshli2nuts (who's done better than it shows), are going to be overlooked. Shouldn't quality and some decent turnout be more important than quantity and (not to be mean) about 30% of the quality?
Of course nothing has happened yet, and I do not mean in any way to stir up trouble, or offend trav, I just want to point that out.

Nice entry, ride6. Seemed a little rushed, but it got you the win, which is what counts.

When you discover you have 12 days rather than 22 it makes a big difference. lol
The layouts were built way before all that though.
