I guess you're just never going to get objective judging with Kumba.
I guess not, but... Good News: I don't plan on ever being the main judge again after this, it's just to hard. Polls might be the way to go next time. Bad News: You keep hating on me for knocking IC down a notch on some peoples lists
Realistic landscaping is by far the hardest to pull off. I don't understand the bit where you expected Panic to send in a kick-ass coaster, so it didn't impress you. In my opinion, the entries should not be judged based on the person who created it. It seems like if Ling had created Panic's entry, it would've been incredible by your standards, because you don't expect it, right? If there were a way to leave each entry anonymous, that would be preferable to me. (The name of the parkmaker could be hidden on some obscure scenery piece)
You can't really have anonymous judging though, styles of building give it away more often not. Kumba, you've been spot on so far on calling in helping judges when required - yes you should have done that for this round but at the end of the day, if panic's got it in him to complete a full pro tour entry he's also got it in him to submit a winning entry to another prelim round. Lesson learned, move on etc
You can't really have anonymous judging though, styles of building give it away more often not.
Not always true. I really didn't expect Ling to come out with what he did. The judge shouldn't even know who sent in entries. The entries should be sent to someone else and then that person sends all the entries to Kumba anonymously. That's just my idea though, maybe its too elaborate.
I think your error, Panic, was constructing a park such that a judge could misinterpret it as a rush job. It does, certainly at a quick glance, look like you didn't put that much time in. Given your above description and a second glance it is obvious to the contrary. However, it's always obvious with natelox or posix parks...
Oh...don't enter the B&M round...I know enough persons who will be in this round and all of them are going to make amazing, incredible and absolutely awesome entrys!! (I'm sure that they'll do that^^)
So please do not enter the B&M round because I'd love to see you AND one of these guys in the finals!
Even if you won't enter the B&M round, it will be the hardest and the round with the most participants!
So good luck everyone and at first I wanted to enter the B&M round, too but I think my solo is more important for me than this solo thing.
Really, none of the other layouts were over-the-top amazing, but panic's was certainly clean and crisp. It was really nostaligic reminding me of the woody in Moonlight Magic, i think it was called Timberwolf. Sure it had nice landscaping, but the architecture didn't seem to match the skill enough to really pull off the job entirely (though i don't agree with that there should be more architecture, architecture needs to serve a point.
The flowers were nice, the grey landsides have been missing for ages (due to rct1 missing for ages, i'm sure). That's what definitely made this a winner for me.
And apart from that, the other entries could not keep my interest at all. Though panic's entry wasn't that much to look at either. It's really near perfection, but it really has too little of anything to amaze me. One good layout, not one-of-a-kind special, and some classic landscaping that we've all seen before too. But i've seen the attempts at good aestetics that don't work, way, way more often than aestetics that do work so i can still come to the same conclusion on that panic maybe should have win. I could have told you beforehand Kumba wouldn't pick it though.
And Kumba, stop saying stupid stuff like how your 110% is made up, especially when you take account on who made the park. That has nothing to do with it, and even if it does subconciously lie about it. Get it? A single i thought the woody Ling made was better than Panic's, and i judged this round, would have sufficed. Much less argument would have followed.
And the judging, i've offered my help here. I'm sure one of Corkscewed/Posix/Ed/Turtle/etc. could help out (I see Turtle and Posix posting here, so they're looking at these entries..). Have 3-4 judges, if the vote is tied make up a decision and no one will bitch about it because various people came to the conclusion. If they attack the vote, all three or four of the judges will be able to defend the decision too, so you'll never be alone in what you think! (or, practically never) Though i think some of these other entries were judged that way, so just go down that same route.
Well I'm still alive... and will be entering with something that i've been working on nearly non-stop for the last two weeks. Nothing like it before I'm sure...
Well, I tried posting a review of all the entries, but my internet crashed and now I'm too depressed (See Park Updates) to do it, so I'll just say I thought they were all pretty nice.
I wish I didn't lose my entry... Then I'd be able to enter the B&M round...

Fuck.
Edit- Good post Panic. Not really my style but an interesting take on rct you don't see too often any more. Which is a damn shame.
And I can see you're logic on this Kumba, but I still don't agree with it at all.

In my opinion a "team of experts" judging setup would be optimal, but its practicality is another matter.

Better yet I won't be one of them as I intend on winning my money back

That doesn't mean anything to those of us who now have zero shot of making it to the finals if you use polls. Please Kumba... no polls.

If you enter a Pre-Lim with LL and win. Does that mean you have to do the Finals in LL too? Or can you do that in RCT2?
Hehe. I'm stupid but it has to be asked.
