    Best Wooden Coaster

By far the hardest round I have judged yet. We have two winners this round. Ling and Vekoma9 both turned in some really good entries in a round that had no clear winner. Also hugely aiding both winners was the fact that they each just barely missed getting NE design twice in this year and then add the fact that one entry is RCT2 and the other LL it seemed reasonable that we have co-winners. Ling's entry was by far the best themed, but his coaster had some painfully slow section. Landscaping and theming put Ling into the PT3 finals. Vekoma9 had one of the best coaster layouts in the contest and his woodie had the best realistic details, just please work on your landscaping for the finals! In second place is Panic who arguable had the best layout, however the rest of his entry was boring and did not show that he was the big gun in the round. Lucas92 lands in third place with an entry that reminds me of egg_Head's from the water ride round, very nice and very small. Nice work Panic and Lucas, however your entries combined look like they were tossed together in 24 hours. CoasterAnne (Who is not a girl!) lands in 4th place with a good wooden coaster and some of the more interesting architecture I have seen in RCT2. Xin makes his third prelim appearance this round, however his snow themed entry was crashed by the avalanche that was the other 5 entries. Helping me judge this round was the PT1 wooden coaster prelim winner, thx for the help ;)

    panic, very nice.
    you're my personal winner here.
in my opinion, your entry had the best coaster and overall the highest aesthetic value.
not exactly realistic style parkmaking in my books, but i'm convinced you should dig into it more :)
i see a lot of young rrp in this. one of the greatest rctll players of all time.
i especially liked the flower-shrub-alignment. soooo sexy!

    well done.
  • Fr3ak%s's Photo
May all RCT2 players please have screens of the entries done in RCT? That would be very nice.
  • Milo%s's Photo
Uhhh... I agree with posix here. Panic was the clear winner here... at least judging the LL entries. A great layout (not your best but it gets the job done) and convincing themeing. Nothing real special but it was a great little entry here. You did stress over that damn que too much though  .

Ling I'm sorry but you're entry just didn't impress me much. From that awkward mid-course brake to the 9mph turn I really didn't care for your layout at all. Themeing was ok I guess. You're getting better at LL.
  • X_Fusion%s's Photo
    They can have two winners???????

I go already to see these works and of the r my opinion!

Kumba, could you in future state which game each entry is? So those that don't have LL don't download a useless file, and vice versa, of course.

Congrats Ling and Vekoma, will check the entries out as soon as I can
  • vekoma9%s's Photo
Wow! thanks. I know I rushed this so bad. Made it in like 2 days. I promise for a surprise in the PT3.

I wish I could see the LL entries. Can someone post a screen for them?

And another thing Good job Ling. Way to show nevada has some skills!

Ok, Took a look at the one's I could.

Lucas- I actually thought the station was nice. I loved it. The track was pretty good too. Good job on that. I thought yours was probably better then mine, but I'm not complaining.

Coaster Anne- Nice entry the layout was odd, but nice. I enjoyed it. one thing though was the buildings they confused me alot.

Xin- Your getting better. Just take more time to do it. Good luck on the following rounds.

Can't view the other entries right now (at work), but hey, props to Ling for winning a prelim with LL for the first time since Alienated won round 9 in the first Pro Tour, if I'm not mistaken. That's a pretty miserable drought, and I'm glad you were able to kill it. I didn't expect anybody else except for OLE to enter LL in any of the prelims at all, and certainly no one else in this round, but I'm happy to take second to the same game I was trying to rep.

    Back at it...

Haha.. hope to see you at one of the bonus rounds man. And if you don't get in it's DUO time baby!!!!!

    Added.
  • Ling%s's Photo
wow... thanks, Kumba! I can honestly say I didn't actually expect any high place in this... Now to find something to do with the other four Prelim entries I've almost finished...

@OLE: I know what you mean about the pacing, as well as the mcbr. The reason I put the mcbr in where I did was to kind of set it up for the drop into the overgrown valley. And I tried to modify the speed a bit by adding in chainlifts in certain spots, but I couldn't do much :(

EDIT: I have now looked at all the parks, so...

    Gibalter - Vekoma9
Great coaster layout; looked really nice. The touches and details underwater were great too. I look forward to your work in the final round.

    Pioneer - Panic
Beautiful. I can't believe I won over this, as it is some really classic-looking LL. The pacing was great, the atmosphere was great... Amazing work, Panic.

    Screamin' Bullet - Lucas92
I heard you say a while back. I'm so glad to see you still around, and your design was great. I <3 your station-making abilities.

    LaovaƤ - CoasterAnne
The layout was awkward, but very cool. The out and back style of the middle bit was really cool, although somewhat slow on that one steep hill. Your architecture was interesting, but unfortunately not that great IMO... The stained glass and castle walls were great, but the other buildings just seemed weird and beyond unrealistic. Good Fantasy style, I suppose?

    Cold Front - Xin
I can't say much for this... Although I see you, like me, used brake slowing for effect. I liked that. But try to make sure that if you use the slanted supports that they match up in some flowing way, so that they don't overlap like you have some of them. Use real water instead of the scenery (it was understandable in Hell's Cross, but try to get away from it) and use more trees. It was barren tundra, but with mountans :p Oh, and finally, your coaster design was... boring IMHO. You are getting better - that's almost certain - but you still have a ways to go.

    panic won it for me.

I can't view the LL entries... but apart from the harbour in vekoma's there wasn't much to shout about rct2 wise, all 3 entries were quite uninspired although every one shows potential.
  • FK+Coastermind%s's Photo
i was unable to look at the LL but i will post on the others

Vekoma9- i think it was really the design of the coaster that got you this. the other looked but and unique. the landscaping was nice. in places alittle confused looking. the archy was good in places but blocky in others. you had some nice details and some places that lacked. at times it looked incomplete. nice work overall, especially the coaster

Lucas92- i liked the archy better in your entry. nice and detailed and fit well. the landscaping in yours was great as well but your coaster feel through. it was short, and took time to go around only because it was slow. i didnt like the second(sorta) chainhill thing you had going on. some of the tunrs and hills were nice but i didnt like the overall flow.

Coasteranne-this entry just didnt do much for me. the layout was okay, not bad, but not great. the detail was there in your archy just it was hard to distingish. alot of your park was paths that surrounded the coaster that led from nowhere and to no where. i thought it had too much forest when you could have spread out the detail.

Xin-the layout on this was very big, but didnt realy need to be. the idea of stopping under the waterfall was cool, but kinda hard to see through the arches. the archy was better but there wasnt much and it was still pretty blocky. the foliage was very much alot of the same. the landscape was flat, bare at times, and all the same. maybe next time try taking your time in a small area instead of doing not much in alot of area.

    congrats vekoma9 and Ling!!

I'd like to thank everyone for the comments. I wasn't concerned so much with the layout as I was actually getting it done, and trying somemore impressive archy. (The arches on the maintanence bridge were fun to do! :D ) Overall, I'm pleased with myself.

Downloading the entries now. Will post comments in a couple of hours (damn dial-up).

you have LL, yes? Then take the files out of the .zip folders, and put them into

Ling's entry was by far the best themed, but his coaster had some painfully slow section. Landscaping and theming put Ling into the PT3 finals.

I don't understand that....because I mistakenly thought this round was the best wooden coaster :)

Vekoma9 had one of the best coaster layouts in the contest and his woodie had the best realistic details, just please work on your landscaping for the finals!

I think he had the second best layout, but nice entry, good job!

In second place is Panic who arguable had the best layout, however the rest of his entry was boring and did not show that he was the big gun in the round.

I fail to see how this entry was boring....my goodness, the clear winner to me. Excellent job.

in my opinion, your entry had the best coaster and overall the highest aesthetic value.

    Exactly.

Ling I'm sorry but you're entry just didn't impress me much. From that awkward mid-course brake to the 9mph turn I really didn't care for your layout at all. Themeing was ok I guess. You're getting better at LL.

Yeah....the coaster layout was imo just horrid...not that I'm a connoisseur of coasters  but you really should have had a bigger drop (not huge) but a lower drop before that mcbr...it just really looked awkward...hard to explain, save the track and look at it alone....you will see what I mean...but yeah, you should have worked more on that layout...Congrats though...as Kumba said, your theming and landscaping were nice!

Nice job also to CoasterAnne, Lucas, and Xin.

From the two LL entries, it's obvious panic should have won. Ling's entry was mediocre at best. The layout left a lot to be desired. I still can't figure out why you chose to brake before the big drop, rather than take advantage of ridiculous air-time and a decent pace for the rest of the ride. No offense Ling, but I can't see how you can win a wooden roller coaster round with a poor design. Panic, on the other hand, sent in something amazing. To say he doesn't have the "big guns" for the Pro Tour is just silly, because his entry was top class. Just because everything isn't super-detailed and hacked does not make it a bad entry. The foliage and landscaping felt so clean and real, and to top it off, the design was perfect. The first drop into the valley cements that opinion for me. It would be a spectacular sight in real life.

In short, Panic deserves to be in the Pro Tour.

    Okay:

    RCT2 Entries

CoasterAnne - Nice layout IMO. I liked it, and I think that if you picked out a couple more colors for the buildings, you couldv'e placed much better.

Lucas92 - Great entry! I loved the station building, and thought it fit really well with the rest of the ride. What I didn't like were the yellow arches on the coaster track itself. Otherwise, I think you did great.

Vekoma9 - Awesome! In your comment about my coaster, you said I should've spent more time on it, yet you spent 2 days on yours and got first place. That's an achievment all by itself. Anyway, loved every bit of it. Just don't spend 2 days on your finals every, k?

    LL Entries

Panic - Definately the best layout, hands down. It's impossible to even think about debating that. Could have used a bit more in terms of archy to make it more interesting, but definately a winner in my book.

Ling - Wow. You defenitely know how to make a great themed coaster. But all those chainlifts made it seem kind of weird. Otherwise, good entry.

BTW, thanks Ling for assisting me in opening the LL files. I had to download the Drexler patch to open them though. Now I can start downloading LL spotlight parks!
