I already told Kumba about mine. I dropped out of this round, but will do the Wildcard. But I was wondering if anyone wanted to see the Adventure/Go-Kart ride that I sort of created.
Well if you only get one entry you may as well hope for a good one. We only did get one, by Deano's Donkey Kong ride is really nice with all it's tall custom trees, railroads, trick track, and attention to detail from the game. This is what an adventure ride is about, it goes outs of places and has a lot of theming interaction. Great work Deano, I am very happy to see you win a prelim, even under these circumstances.
Preliminary Rounds - Due Date: FK+Coastermind Created The Best Bridge (May 14) J K Created The Best Water Ride (May 21) Geoff Created The Best Inverted Coaster (May 28) Ling & Vekoma9 Created The Best Wooden Coaster (June 4) Peeee Created The Best B&M (June 11) Deanosrs Created The Best Adventure Ride (June 18) Create The Best Dueling Coasters (June 25) Create Any of the Above, a.k.a. "The Bonus Round") (July 2) Wildcard! Create anything you want (July 9)
Bah. I thought no-one else would enter this round so knocked this together in 3 days or so... still, I'm happy with how it turned out even if it was a little rushed. Still feels good to finally have qualified, and I would like to think it would have taken a pretty good entry to beat this. Oh, and can I have some kind of record for most 2nd places before a qualification (think that is 4 after last week!)
I'll put an effective readme here as I didn't have time yesterday...
The ride is based on Donkey Kong 64, so each of the playable characters (plus Cranky) have a ride or restaurant named after them. Check out Chunky's tree house lift (was very surprised when invisible track didn't throw an error trapper here - maybe a way to get a roller coaster to go vertical on invisible track?) and Cranky's Crooked House, both of which I was quite happy with. The latter because it just fitted into the theme so well.
Mmmm... otherwise, I also planned to have King K.Rool's island next door with its blast-o-matic laser ready but I didn't have time. I also would have liked to have made it peepable again, but due to poor planning the island is too far from the entrance. I also didn't have time to make my own workbench so used geewhz's - although I'm actually grateful for the lack of mine themeing - it made me improvise - I certainly would have used some barrels alot. Also I forgot to put "wooden" bananas in most of the trees but, um, use your imagination!
Also, the complete lack of buildings is not accidental, I'm tired of just rattling out the same stuff, so it was refreshing to build something with an entirely different focus.

So enjoy your wild mine ride around DK's island, watch out for the spare carts flying around!
Congratulations deanosrs! I enjoyed your entry, though I found it kind of hard to follow. It seems like it would be more fun to ride than it is to watch. Again, good job and good luck in the PT3.
Well, this is what you get for having 40 different ways of getting into the PT..
I tried to warn you about this, but yeah, takes all of the fun away of the prelims imo..
Great job deano, smart move entering this round, I would've done the same.. You sure did deserve qualifying for the PT3 with all those entries you've created over the years.. I've yet to check it out in-game, but from the overview it looks nice and more important; adventure-ish!

well I have to disagree a bit on this .... we've had a lot of entrys last week so it was to expect that we had less this week .... I expect we have only 2 or 3 entrys next week also but in the wildcard and bonus round I think we will have more entries again because there have been some time between it and people have had time to build again. and all the unfinnished enties will be used in thos rounds to.
congrats on the win!! your adventure ride was aweosme. i love all the seperate mine trains you had running. very much like donkey kong and they were timed really well. the ideas you had were very good and pulled very well. the trees were nice although at times the trees and other obstructions made it hard to follow the ride. the landscaping was nice although alittle blocky in areas. teh detail in the mine was very nice. great entry!!
Nice work everyone.
But my real reason for posting is to ask how download geewhzz's bench. It just opens up with all the .DATs or whatever.
How do I turn that into a park? Why can't he just put in the park with nothing in it?
Just put the files that come with the bench into your Objdata-file.
Then open up the bench and you have a clean land you can build on.
As for the entry: great job! The landscaping was blocky in spots and it was hard to follow the ride at times but overall it was fun.
And I think it would be fun to ride too. Some of the ideas like the Lonely cars on the way were awesome. A sHame you were the only one entering though...
I was expecting a quiet round sometime as well but this entry certainly does not disappoint. I'm glad you got in as you've proved it with all your work that you’re meant to be in this competition. Great job. As for the wildcard round my predictions are its going to be an amazing round due to loads of entries that weren’t submitted and the winner is truly going to deserve it so much. That’s going to be awesome.
disneylhand - cheers, well as far as the hard to follow thing goes I always think you can pull up the ride window and view where any cart is in a nice big window, so I never think about that while building.
Pineapple - thought about doing a super monkey ball one... that wasn't your idea was it?
Six Frags - I definitely agree with that, Kumba is doing a great enthusiastic job here but those 3 guys who won designs would now be fighting it out for the last 3 spots. Instead, well, they're not. I think it takes the fun of the prelims away for the parkmaker as well, hence why I didn't submit Oberon for design. But if someone makes a dueler or any type of coaster for the last 3 rounds, that is obviously design quality, of course they'll send it in for design not the last 3 rounds. Kumba, I think you should cut off the design qualification thing now. Although a part of me does agree that beejer should qualify for winning runner up with a whole park. That's a little different.
FK+Coastermind - I guess you're referring to the uber blocky volcano at the back of the island. Was going to quarter tile sculpture it but didn't have time. I did take care to make as much of the ride visible as possible, you just need to rotate the view from time to time.
JK/Ling - cheers.
Marshy - no. My real name is actually Cuthbert. It's pretty embarassing so I try to hide it as much as possible.

But yeah I scrapped it and am working on something else.
Well done, even if you were the only competitor!
