OK, I'm just going to cut the crap and say that I agree with everyone else, regarding you know what. I can talk like a pussy all I want, as I did previously, but it doesn't change the obviousness of what's to be found in game.
That is all I will say.
Moving on.
Disagreeing with your judging is going to be a normal occurrence. Get used to it, don't be defensive about it, like Evil said...just say you thought it was the best...blah blah.
I judge stuff too and I can understand how you feel Kumba when people disagree and actually POST about it, but you own the site, you are the judge, and its your decision.
We, however, as the general public in the forum, can say whatever we want...
I can't imagine this going on if iris was here....first of all, no one would have publicly posted disagreement with him, and if they did, he would have ground them into a pulp if they did....
Hum, Kumba, maybe you should review how to judge the entries, so there wouldn't be a pile of posts saying 'Panic's the best or Panic's the best because he has a good reputation...
I guess not, but... Good News: I don't plan on ever being the main judge again after this, it's just to hard. Polls might be the way to go next time. Bad News: You keep hating on me for knocking IC down a notch on some peoples lists
That's just ridiculous. Really? Did it even matter?
Other stuff (who made the entry, when they turned it in, could they finish a finals entry, ect...)- 5%
I don't even wanna hear about this crap. Basing a judge on a person by who they are and how early they sent it is just wrong. I sort of get the last part, becuase if they don't get an entry finished, you could've given the prelim win to someone who you know could finish one, but the first two bring up the "It probably could've won if Phatage had made it" theory. You don't know how long a person has been working on a project, so who are you to say, "Well, *insert name here* sent it in about 5 or 6 days before the deadline, so I dropped him a place or two." And as for who made it, I've seen a lot of new names here who could do amazing in this competition, and you're throwing their chance away becuase they aren't as know as some of the other names around here.
lol Panic... I think your posts change every time I look at them...
and guys... favoritism is one thing that NE has been built on from the start... so even though Kumba has announced that who you are is a (small) part of his judging process... at least he announced it instead of quietly giving you the shaft
so as much as we all want a fair and equal judging system, it's just not going to happen and as Panic has pointed out Corky and iris have made mistakes in the past and im certain favortism has played a role in many decisions around here so it's not like this is anything new...
Well, I suppose that if you give the gold to people you know will actually make a finals entry, and make a really good finals entry, you're increasing the amount of competition once finals come around. Then we'll all be looking forward to some kick ass entries. I mean, I'm a noob, and I really want to be in the finals, but I know that if I do get in, it will be a stroke of luck, and I'll end up dead last anyway. So by knowing that I'm a noob, you'd want to steer clear of my entry becuase I will not be one to make a great turnout in the finals. Here's a diagram:
I'm not saying that I don't want to be in the finals, cuz that would be totally awesome if I was, but I'm just trying to give a good example of why certain entries have favoritism over others.
Just kinda thought I'd throw in my two cents, even though nobody really cares...
Hey, this may sound like a really stupid question, but can anyone explain what to build in the finals? Or maybe point me in the direction of past PT final entries?
Kumba, if your spotlight topic hadn't been just a few days ago, i'd be going apeshit at you again.
let me just advice you to follow that idea of having more judges in the future. even for prelim rounds. because contest are only fun when they're fair. and from reading the posts here, i think the majority considers your judging not fair at all. of course we all have styles we prefer, but your judging often seems a little primitive and misunderstanding, when you're saying ling's entry had the best theming, when in fact it was just rocks cluttered with foliage and occaisional buildings, which, and i'm serious here, anyone could do in 4-5 hours. if you notice you've done a mistake, how about you just say sorry instead of cocky 110% comments ...
i mean look who you're getting pissed. evil wme, emergo, turtle, panic, me ...
But Posix, when are you not pissed. Seriously, ripping apart Kumba has started to overshadow RCT as far as reason to come here goes for some people.
This is a prelim round, a prelim round that nobody really deserved entry into the contest for because the overall quality just was not that good. In all fairness, while Panic may have made the most pleasing of all the entries, it was in no way shape and or form standout. In fact, it was probably the antithesis of standout. And in a one shot contest like PT finals, that is the kind of entry that will finish dead last every time. You have a small amount of room to make a big impression, so use it. As far as having a panel for the prelims go, it is way too much trouble to coordinate all those people to get ratings in every week, you would slow down the whole process and just drag it on. And beyond that, its unnecessary. If a prelim round is close, either the entries are so good that the losing entry will get in another round, or are all subpar and it really won't matter which of them got in because they won't have a real shot at winning the finals without pulling a complete 180 as far as their abilities go. And it seems like whenever Kumba has been stumped so far he has consulted others for their opinions, so I really don't get where some of you come up with this image that Kumba is power tripping all over the place.
As far as the whole judging based on the person issue... there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Let's face it, the community is dicey on finishing contests strong after a less than impressive end to the last H2H. Kumba wants to ensure this is a quality contest, with the highest number of great entries possible. Which means, if he thinks two parks are very closely matched in the prelims, then the tie breaker might just be who is more likely to finish. And that makes sense, because that is making the best choice for the good of the contest. Which is essentially what the prelims are all about, who will make the finals round the most exciting and interesting. It's not like the contest is an exclusive all on name judging, if you are unknown or known for not finishing work, you can still get in by making clearly the best entry in the round. So push yourself that extra mile and make something really great. For example, Panic, could you do better? Was that your absolute best work? Because if you had, you would have gotten in. Contests are about going above and beyond, not just turning in something ordinary.
Also keep the bonus spots in mind. I know historically it's only 2 not matter how worthy a third guy might be (Deano (PT1) and trav (PT2)), however the way things are looking I may take up to 4. Infact by next week I know for a fact there all be at least 4 new PT3 finals qualifiers
That's why i liked "Hi-rollers" better. Or a Pro Tour where everyone can enter. It really doesn't matter when there are a whole bunch of lesser entries, just makes the ones above it stand out more. And when you are letting in everyone anyways, why not. Or chose to have a PT, and release the entries not good enough before the 'actual' releasing of the pro tour starts. (As in, here are the parks that didn't make the cut, there will be 15 entries that did starting to be released two weeks from now.) something like that. But whatever, it's fun the way it is and i can enter right away. And you even gave me a small map, and you're giving out cash for the winner.

^ Oh, oh... I do understand what makes you say this, but small correction here: I was not pissed, simply because I had no time to view the entries in-game yet (and no possibilty to see the LL-ones)and I am convinced one cannot judge even a prelim just from screens......but when Becky put up the screens I honestly was blown away by Panic's one and told so.
As I had not seen any entry in-game/close-by yet, I tried to make it clear that I did not want to discuss the judging at that moment, just express my awe for Panic's entry.
Yes, of course I sometimes have my doubts on how the judging is done.....but I am also aware that judging- of any kind - is a very difficult thing to do. In RL as well as in a game like here. Pyro above wrote some things about that which seem to make sense (although I personally don't agree with his rather low appreciation of Panic's entry ), but for the process, yes....sometimes one chooses to let someone in for other reasons than simply being the best. Does not have too be a real problem I think, as long as the motives to do so are clear at least, for then one knows what can be expected...... Think by now they are......(reasons a bit clear), so by now we all can know that winning a prelim is not just and only based to simply making the "best" entry for that round, but also based on former activity and expectations for future activity derived from that.
Now we can start a new discussion about if these "motives" are "right".
Or focuss on another strategy, for instance that, once enough reliable workers have won a ticket into PT, may be some extra bonus-places can be given to ones that came second-place with very good entries, but are less reliable in producing finished parks......(nothing to loose then anymore as the more productive ones are in already....)
And is not that what we all want: many finished parks to be entered into PT and as many chances as possible that some mind-blowing ones will be amongst them.... (so imo we do need the hard workers with their possible surprises, as well as the ones that will absolutely surprise us if hey succeed in finishing more than 60% of the bench...)

Who's entering for B&M then? Looking forward to seeing the results for that already, before I dominate the adventure round!
