Stupid question, but what's a prelim?

I explained on rct-guide in dutch already ;) , look there, I think you understand it than :)

I'm just saying that there's no point in having prelims when you can win with a design.. If you're allowing designs, people won't enter prelims (at least that's how I think).. In order to prevent that from happening, you could up the requirements regarding designs (temporarily) thus making it harder to get into the PT..
I'm not saying the recent designs aren't good enough for the PT at all, just to ensure the prelims matter this 'feature' should be reconsidered..

Ok, I understand what you're saying now. And I guess to a certain extent I agree that there is a risk there will be fewer entries for some of the preliminaries.

However, trying to get in by doing a design is more of a risk. If you don't get design you're screwed -- there are no second chances. If you enter it in a prelim you still have a chance at one of the 2 extra spots even if you don't win.

And I do recall there was plenty of people last time trying to figure out which prelim would have fewer entries and entering those for a higher chance of winning. I see the same thing happening here.

Remember last seasons we had some rounds of 1 or 2 entries? That's what we have to try to prevent.. And it won't help if you're allowing more ways, and especially easier ways, to get into the PT..

    SF

Yep, I remember that. But there were a lot more categories last time. There's about half as many for PT3. About the only one I can see having 2 entries is the bridge category (seriously....build a bridge to get into PT3? WTF)

SF, Metro and Rick - Like I said when I posted Pharaoh, the design bar has been rasied. Now id say you'd need something stronger like on the level of Kindred, Batman, Big Bear ect... Infact I have turned down 3 design submissions lately, so don't expect an esay pass with a design.

RU I may be a little nicer, but thats mainly so someone can finish a project they started before the tour. If I get a submission that looks like something just tossed together to get a PT3 spot (Geewhzz' bench would be a huge clue) it would have a hard time winning RU. I hope the prelims don't mean people will put their own projects to the side.

Honestly if I was a Non-Parkmaker looking to enter I would do a prelim, because it's fun going for a first place finish and someone has to win each round and get an invite to the tour.

Chapelz - Nice logo, but before I make anything official id like to see what Cork does.

JDP - Theming will count big time as that improves the look of the layout.

Oh I should also point out that when I say an RU, SRU, Design or Spotlight can get you in... it must be a solo, joints and group parks won't garner an invite to the tour.

Also for the bonus spots they are based on entries into the prelims.

So what would happen if i sent in a Design submission and it got rejected. Could i use that same design as an entry in one of the catagories for the prelims?

I have no intention of doing this by the way, just curious.

    Nope. 1 submission per thing.
  • Lloyd%s's Photo
But in that case, i would only be entering one submission. I mean if i sent in a submission for NE Design (whilst the prelims were on, therefor trying to guarentee my place in the Pro Tour) but the design got rejected, could i then enter that coaster into one of the prelims? It would only be one entry.

I'm just curious as to what you would say about it, again, i have no intention of doing it.

^What if you sent it in for design before the prelims. Can you send that in for a prelim?

^ That's what i'm trying to say lol

And he answered no to it.

You can certainly expect a prelim or two from me.

So I'm a little confused... do you have to win a spotlight during prelims to get the exemption, or is it if you have won a spotlight in the past you are exempt? Or how does the exemption work with retired parkmakers?

Either way, I might still build stuff for the prelims just to practice here and there. Get back up to speed.

Hey, I'm new here, and I'm really excited about PT3. But I just have a few questions:

On the first post it said no RCT2 WW and TT, and no RCT3. Does that mean we can only use LL? Because I've never had a trainer, custom objects, or anything of that sort for LL.

Also, JDP inquired about theming for the rides entries. For the bridge entry, do rides have to be included, or is it just supposed to be one big pretty bridge?

By the way, I wish everyone good luck in the prelims. May the best man (or woman) win!

With RCT2 WW and TT he means that you can't use those expansion packs as very few people have them (and they're full of trash anyway). So you can only use rct2 and rct1 (with LL ofcourse)

Alright, I can't wait to get started. Oh, and repeating Xin's question, do there need to be rides in the bridge entry?

I was really excited about this, but I think the prelim themes are boring and uninspired.

This is pt3. We need a new fresh perspective on this contest. And, the whole spotlight/design thing doesn't count.

    Indeed.

Regardless, I might consider the bridge entry again.
And a design of sorts wouldn't be out of the picture, if I can find the time.

^^The full sized parks ought to count, IMO. Anybody with the determination to finish a full sized park that wins a runner up or higher posesses the capability to build a good pro tour entry. I also think that designs and smaller parks should not count directly, but should allow SLIGHTLY lower placing players to get in to the Pro Tour. That way, people won't be able to so easily skirt around the prelims but will be rewarded for their extra effort.
  • tracidEdge%s's Photo
people who make design should be considered for the bonus spots.

    I vote tE for judge.
