CoasterAnne's real name is Anne... He just lives in Friesland in Holland which is the weird part of holland or so I have heard and his parents called him Anne as other boys their are named anne...
@ JJ:ehhh....hmmm...Friesland for sure is not a "weird" part of Holland: just a bit more rural than the rest and veeeery beautiful....and yes, Anne is a name for boys there. And after all, what's in a name: I used to think for nearly a year - until I read where it came from that Iris (yes the Iris from NE) was a girl, for I never met a boy/man before who was called Iris.......
@ Deanosour: bit puzzled I am about your persistence about 5DaveĀ“s entry being so "boring". As I wrote before, I liked your adventure ride a lot, but let's be honest: it was far from being the most original thing around in the last year(s). If I wanted to be nitpicking I could honestly call your trees (seen soooo many times before already) very boring and the somewhat repetitive landblock-work (idem dito) also veery boring.......and I could have complained about the lack of arhitecture which could have made the ride so much nicer and more breathtaking adventurous still.....So even if your entry did not have a WOW-factor for me, or a great score on originality, I still liked it as a really nice adventure ride and think that was more important than the lack of the other things.(we cannot all be a Phatage, Cbass, XCoaster or Turtle etc...) and....eh... give us your WoW-factor in PT then........
On the duelling coasters: so far I only explored 5Dave's: I am with James here: so far my favourite entry of these prelims!!
Really enjoyed their layout a lot, with a good amount of near missing each other where they went over/under and through each other, timing was superb, fine supports. Now I am no coaster expert like Panic, and I have no reason not to believe him when he says that small inversions may be easier to use for duellings than larger ones, but even then it must not be very easy to pull off a nice working one, given the -very very small- amount of good ones that is being produced.....
Anyway, I would want to ride it immediately if I stumbled upon it in RL, especially as I would be in such a good mood seeing the lovely archy and surroundings in which I would walk in this park....
Very nice work, Dave: Congrats on this one and the nice bridge and wishing you a great time with PT
Should have got in to the Pro Tour in the very first round with by far the best bridge, I really liked your entry 5dave. Deano, we go back a fair bit but practice what you preach, if you must preach at all.
I'm not preaching at all, and I did go over the top. But no-one can deny that the tan path/white fence combo is highly reminiscent of chimera, that's just the first thing I noticed when I opened the park. Ideally the first thing you should notice about a park shouldn't be it's similarity to another. So that was really all that I meant by my comments, that my perception of 5Dave's entry was that he's done a good layout, and then didn't think as much as he might about the themeing, just going with the conventional buildings/foliage. I think Jazz put it better.
@Emergo - I've been away for a couple of years, and have only seen trees like that once. The landblocks are also completely new to me. I don't think it's fair though to complain about the lack of architecture, in fact that kind of annoys me because there are no ground buildings in DK villages and they were what I was trying to replicate. Saying that every ride/park should have architecture is trying to apply a rule to art, and that's just silly.
My point is, my DK ride had the wow factor for me, and frankly that really is all I care about. In the same way that I won't enter the Pro Tour unless I can come up with a decent idea. If 5Dave enjoys viewing his entry but I don't, then I'd prefer it was like that than him not liking it and everyone else loving it.
@Deano: You know, there are thousands of parks out there, so it's getting harder and harder to make something special and different I think. Nothing against you, Deano, but I also thought your Adventure ride was nice, but not that mind-blowing to me. The most important thing, as you said, is if you're satisfied with your work yourself. And I think you are with your ride and I am with mine. You can't always please everybody with your work. But I'm happy with it and I'm also happy some are happy with it too. But I don't agree it's like Chimera. I also couldn't copy it because I finished it before the B&M prelims were announced. (my duellers were finished on may 31st)
@Jazz: Sorry for being overrated
@RCTNW and Emergo: Thanks for your sympathy - very appreciated!
Haha. This is the "Best Dueling Coaster" round is it not? I feel that none of these coasters had good dueling to them. If I honestly had to pick the coasters with the best dueling, it would be CoasterAnne actually. Oh, but wait. His themeing wasnt good so he cant win a dueling coaster round without good theming... Seriously people, that is what it is all about anymore.

Shut up you two, it's not as if this has happened overnight. It's always been about the whole package. Not a competition goes by when someone doesn't take the guidelines far too literally. None of the spotlight parks have actual spotlights in them. Therefore they're all bad. Honestly, stop being so fucking dim.

The whole package is great, except the major part (the so called dueling part)wasn't all that good.. and that's the important part. Don't get me wrong, the parks were good, but the coasters were not the best I've seen, not by a long shot. I think it's an achievement to build any dueling coaster, though, because I can't do it, so i'm not really one to talk, but that goes for any of the prelims, or any park/ design for that matter. If the coasters aren't up to standard, then what's the point? The game is, and always has been, ROLLER COASTER tycoon. that's why this site was founded.. because of the coasters. that should still be the focus, IMO. Honestly, stop being so fucking narrow minded.
Of course RCT was designed about making great Rollercoasters. And about making great working peep-friendly parks ( in the way Chris Sawyer saw and restricted that all, on purpose as well as because of other restrictions...)
And then came RCT2, and scenery was added, and then the game developed even more, and since years already the game has gone beyond just and only good coasters... The,righteously so, greatest parkmakers are able to incorporate great coasters as well as great theming/archy in their parks, and nobody questions this or says "just leave the theming/archy....it's only about rollercoasters").
But yes, this must be hard for people who can only build coasters:however absolutely important that is, of course still the core of this game and I do admire the ones that can build awesome coasters (I cannot ) , but also: no longer the only thing after developments of last years. And the reverse: Only building archy will not be impressive enough to make one a decent parkmaker nowadays. Yep, like Turtle said, you go for the package now...
and: @ Woofenskid:
IMO. Honestly, stop being so fucking narrow minded.
^ Being "narrowminded" means focussing rigidly on just one known -safe to yourself- aspect of something/whatever without having the flexibility/daring to go beyond it, so fuck (in your words) yourself, for it's not people that can see things in a broader perspective that are "narrow-minded" but it's the the ones like you that only can obviously just see one aspect of this game that are "narrow-minded"...... So shut up, you, Woofy....
Don't worry, If I see your topics, in which you are asking for help on archy also, I guess you are ambivalent on this yourself, so keep a bright eye and keep having fun!

agreed. I think, that if the round is called "the dueling coaster round" that it should be about the coasters first and foremost, not the theming.
