It's too bad you went up against a park that visually impressive because I loved Spirits Bay. (and voted for it.)
RCT2 hotels and other large buildings used to really impress me because I compared them to RCT1 parks. The stacking abilities of RCT2 really doesn't do the comparisons justice, and I think you'll probably see that in the Hotel contest of The Pro Tour.
Not saying it wasn't incredible...
But I think it wasn't as great as it looks from far away.
Anyway, good job both of you. At least you both made the playoffs.
My thoughts, and thanks to iris keeping this open for an extra day.
Spirts Bay:
This was quite impressive. The native theme is too underused in this game. The totom poles were done very well, and all the little details in the park were great. I was slightly turned off the park because of it's colour scheme for the roofs (which might have looked better if they were consistant) and the lack of a strong park layout. Could have won had the competion not been the greatest rct2 park to date.
Myttica Resort:
That hotel was pretty good. I will start right off by saying it could have been better thought. The pirate roofing looks horrible on all buildings, and looks bad here. The walls don't see like real hotel walls (okay, yes i'm being picky, I will be if I want to be ) and the 'white and blue' part of the hotel doesn't fit the style at all and looks horrible. Another thing that annoyed me was the size of the hotel, it was just to big, not in height but width. The hotel was way to fat, needs a diet. Other than those complaints, I loved it! The composition of elements (for the hotel) were great and the glass elevators were genious. The use of awnings were well done. The coaster was quite innovatave and impressive. One of the best RCT2 parks I have ever seen.
The Icons are the first team moving into the Finals, off the help from Corkscrewed and his Myttica Resort.
PyroPenguin was originally supposed to make the park with him, but had problems, so Cork did it himself.
Spirits Bay was also a great park, created by ToonTowner and Posix.
Was looking at toon's work, came across this. How in the hell did they think that hotel was anywhere near amazing even for back then? The LL park was so much better, geez.
First major instance of monumentally-big RCT2 realism architecture. People lost their shit over it because giant hotel tower wasn't a concept anyone had done before with this level of detail or in something this high-profile.

Hah, thanks. I did feel pretty pissed back then due to the obvious RCT2 hype.
