there was no reason as to not use the same gauge of track throughout - the vertical drop coaster naturally can do everything that is shown there...

heads up - there's two known models of that car - one holds only 8 people, the other holds 10 people... the 10 car would take up an entire block off to the side as well, while the 8 car would only take up and additional half of a block.

yeah, those loops should be together side by side (hint - in an inverted coaster those dangling legs at those loops will actually work out - remember that the rest of the inversion look side by side when you put them like that, and inverted coaster needs to have about 10-15 ft of difference between them so legs don't collide
Also as to the rest of the layout, much of it needs reworking.
Even in the most recent picture you have I would like to note that the red side has some fuax drop right before the loop as well. Also, the entrance and exit stations are separate stations - they literally have a different station for main dispatch and another station for re-entry.

well now SAW - The ride is closed due to the incident at Alton Towers (though the rest of Thorpe Park is fine for the time being) - what do you guys think of the paranoia spreading?

The Smiler's construction was also rushed to have it open on time - that should have been the doom sign, not the fact that they choose Gerstauler as the manufacturer... they botched the construction and maintenance on that ride so much it could already be done for good when they loose the lawsuits requiring the removal of the ride (which could bring the whole sector into jeopardy)
