After a mere 6 months we finally have an all new NE Spotlight park thanks to (arguably) the most active parkmaker in the history of RCT2, James "RCTNW" Thurston who brings us Marriott's Marine World. One thing James has always been known for is the massive scale in which he builds with and this 200x200 map is no exception as there are well over 5,000 seats all around the park's different marine stadiums. Congratulations on finally achieving NE's highest honor, I think we all knew that it would happen someday.

I just skimmed through it shortly looking at all the E-Tickets and those were great, and I don't know how you have the patience with those HUGE stadiums.

One thing I really liked about pretty much all the coasters was their interaction. With the underwater tunnels, diving through cliffs and waterfalls, it was great.

Another thing I loved was the dive machine's pre-lift...that would be a really cool feature on a real life dive machine.

Then the Splash Boats were amazing...never would've guessed it was an unconventional layout from the screen you gave.

I'll probably write a full review for all the coasters when I get the chance to look at all there stations, queues, and other details later on today.

    Anyway, GREAT PARK!

Yes! Great park indeed! In fact, i'd say this is my favorite out of the Marriott series. You never disappoint me RCTNW! Congrats on a well deserved spotlight! :D

First off, great job James and congratulations. Amazing architecture, foliage, and landscaping. Now I am going to comment on you roller coasters.

Proteus- I love old school wooden coasters, but I really dislike it when people recreate the cyclone. Don't get me wrong it's a great ride but I just feel that that coaster should have not been in your park (Plus, all the other coasters were top of the line and had newer styles. I just feel this did not fit in at all with the rest of your line up).

Kraken- Awesome Impulse. Happy to see it was like Voodoo/ Steel Venom and not like Wicked Twister. Only thing I didn't really like about it, is that it had no floor underneath the track.

Leviathan- It was a pretty solid design, but I really was never a fan of 4D's so it was hard for me to get into this one. Nice interaction though.

Hydra- By a mile was the best coaster in the park. I was finally able to enjoy a dive machine with out seeing an Immelmann in the layout. I feel the coaster had great interaction and had a pretty well flowing layout. I don't really have too many complaints on this. :)

Thresher- Okay, well, where do I start. Let me just say this coaster nearly killed your entire park for me. The coaster itself was just way too massive and unorthodox for the park. It killed the parks skyline and it was like a giant zit on someones face. It was a good idea to have it isolated from the rest of the park but it still didn't do it justice. The speed was just way too fast and its turns were too sudden. I think a classic B&M hyper would have been perfect. In my final conclusion to the coaster, I feel if Kumba didn't make this coaster, the park might have not gotten Spot Light (Sorry for being so harsh).

So overall (besides Thresher), it was an awesome park.

Hmm, maybe the hype did kinda kill this park, but I'm somewhat disappointed.. I think NE Spotlights deserve to be looked closely into, so here we go..

    1) Architecture; I know it's your style, but this is extremely monotonous to me.. Pretty much all your buildings look exactly the same, with only other forms and colours attached to it.. I would have loved it if you themed it a little more, and made every building a little bit different than the other.. Now it tends to look boring.. And some people might say it looks realistic that way, but I disagree.. No themepark would have their buildings look the same throughout the park.. The stadiums on the other hand look magnificent (although those seats look terrible from certain views-but that's not really your fault I guess)..

    2) Theming; Except for the marine theme in the stadiums, a lot of the rides were pretty themeless.. They were just wandering through some trees and that's it.. A few exceptions here and there with tunnels and water splashes but that's pretty much it..

    3) Rides; Thresher looks like it will be a blast to ride, but it's just too fantasy-ish for me I guess.. It's too high, too fast and too long imho, in this setting.. It would have looked terrific in drc, but in this park it doesn't really fit imo.. Leviathan has to be my favourite though with Hydra as a close 2nd.. That raises the question to me why you didn't just do all the rides by yourself? You can clearly envision what rides would fit in what setting where in your park, so why let others create a layout for you and you have to do all the cleaning up and things.. If you ask me, the best thing to do would be to create all your (major) rides by yourself.. That way you can carefully plan them and they would fit in the whole of the park..

Those were 3 (major) factors which took the park down for me, but I did enjoy a lot of things too.. Like the splash boat ride (Monsoon Falls); It was clearly the best ride in the park! Nice work levis, by making it work this way..
And, like I said, the stadiums were terrific.. Each one was huge, but still had it's own style.. If you just took the quality of the stadiums further into the park, it would've been perfect..
The monorail hoovering above and through the whole park, was very nice too.. I like the way you've supported them.. The chairlift also was nice, especially its station..

All in all, it was an enjoyable park, too bad about the un-peepfriendlyness ( :( ), and thanks for the time and energy you put in the park so that NE could enjoy it!
Oh, and congrats on your first Spotlight James! :D

First let me say thanks. MMW took just over 1 year to complete and I'm glad to have finished this. Getting Spotlight is icing on the cake.

SF – Thanks for the feedback and I do agree with most of what you stated.
    - Architecture – I see your point and I was in the process of mixing it up a bit however it lost the concept I was going for. Although the “Style” is similar in features and colors, they each tied themselves to the arena/show it was near. If you look at each stadium, the features are carried through that area. Although not the best of solutions, it was the better of the options for me.
    - Theming – I too would have enjoyed seeing a more “marine or water” aspect to it however the objects I chose really did allow me to IMO (yes it was my fault). The inspiration for this park was the former Six Flags Marine World near San Francisco. As you can see the stadiums were what I was thinking about when I first came up with the concept and as I proceeded with the park, I found myself with the very problem you described. Now that it’s finished, would I do another Marine or Sea World park again, no. Unless you just over kill the park with water, I’m not sure I could have done any better.
    - Rides – The main reason why I’m now looking to others for help with coasters is I really don’t enjoy building them. For me, it takes WAY too long and I don’t have the patience for it (go figure though that I have the patience to build stadiums). With each of these coasters, The guest builder provided what I was looking for. I also did not use all the guess coasters. CP6 had created one that after looking at it and working the pathing elements, I decided it was not what I was looking for. Not because the coaster was bad but that it didn’t fit my vision. The good news is that the coaster has been moved to MGA and will be released shortly. As for Thresher not fitting in with this park, I would disagree. I needed and wanted a monster of a coaster for this park. MGA currently has smaller, less intimidating coasters. Thresher was to make a statement. Yes the coaster is fast in parts and had there been wider turns, we would have used them. Problem is we don’t have that option. That said, I have no problems with Thresher and enjoyed having it in the park.

I do appreciate the feedback and I hope that the next map will be able to correct some of the issues MMW had. Thanks!

JDP - Thanks for the info.
    - Proteus - This was a way of saying thanks to Steve Franks. He is one of the first people I knew (before I knew about NE) that had really put a lot of thought when he built recreations of many coasters from around the world. I had always wanted to use one of his recreations and after looking over his collection, I decided to go with his cyclone recreation. It fit the space and concept of the Boardwalk area. I had a very specific look about I was going for and it fit the need.
    - Kraken - Yea, I should have fixed that or at least changed the color of the base blocks under it.
    - Thresher - As I stated above, If only the turns could have been wider. However, this is what I asked for and I'm very happy with the end result.

I am glad you enjoyed the park and thanks for the feedback!

Comet & TC - Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Last, I want to thank those that really helped the park.
Kumba, Turtle & Steve Franks - Thanks for the coasters!

Levis - Thanks for the help with the splash boats and for fixing my various problems I caused!

HPG - Thanks for the logo!

CP6, 5dave, Kumba, Levis, Turtle & posix - Thanks for the feedback during the construction. Your input really helped me get this thing finished.

I'll post more inside info in the next day or so.

    Again, thanks everyone!

    James - rctnw

congrats on the spotlight altough I think we all knew you would get it.
I've given most of my comment already so I wont bore you with that again.
  • JJ%s's Photo
Aww thanks for the thanks. Really enjoyed the park :)

Although I personally preferred the old colours of the dive machine. Kumba's coaster was well different but kind of nice. Great work as always man :)

I'll do a proper comment some other time.

james, congratulations. awesome work. i loved the park. you know my thoughts already.

so Kumba made thresher? well yeah, i didn't like it either. it's just painful to see the too high lift-hill the bad speed through all of the layout and finally the non-acceptable intensity ratings.

It's tough for me to find something to complain about. I really love the atmosphere and the mood created by the whole park. My favorite section is definitely the Boardwalk... I'm not really sure what it is, but everything there just fits together so nicely. While it might've been cool to see another style of wooden twister, it's hard to argue with something that works. I think if I had to find something to complain about, it's that I feel that a lot of the coasters are just over the top. Thresher for example in terms of physical massiveness, but the 4-d as well in terms of overall cost and technicality. It drew away from some of the realism in my eyes, but I can see that as a design choice, and I'm ok with it. A lot of times it's good to see some big stuff. It makes you wonder 'what if...'
Anyway, great job, looking forward to the rest of the Marriott series.

I didn't understand the B&M Hyper...Why did it have an Intamin support design? :S And it didn't look like a B&M design at all. Large B&M coasters have lots of airtime hills, and usually always have at least one of the cool looking helixes. This coaster really really ruined the park for me. I don't particularly care for realistic parks like this much, but when they are made, they have got to be realistic in coaster designs, and it just wasn't.

Also, we know you can build big stadiums now...can we see something else please?
  • CedarPoint6%s's Photo
^ It's a Marine World Park-- the stadiums fit this kind of theme. What else is he supposed to do? I must disagree, though, in lumping all the stadiums under a 'big stadiums' term. Every single one of them has had different architectural details and is uniquely interesting in my opinion.
  • Comet%s's Photo
This is my opinion on Thresher

It had an amazing location within the Shark Encounter (which was my favorite section btw) and it could've been even better if the beginning of the queue ran right up along the shark tank, still pretty cool how close it was though. Then the station and it's surroundings were spot on.
As for the coaster...it just shouldn't of been 310 feet. It had a GREAT layout...you just cant go directly from 310 to 160 in RCT. If it had been a 250 lift it would have been absolutely amazing, because other then the speed, there was no flaws. It had great interaction going through the shark tank, an airtime filled first half, with a nice twisting end...it was just too fast. And trav, I don't see how it wasn't B&M style supporting at all, there's just a lot more supports then usual which is needed with the rides speed and height.
So basically everything was amazing except the first drop.

    Ok...Let's have a look at the 3 biggest B&M coasters lift-hills...

    Silver Star

    Behemoth

    Nitro

    Compared to...

    Thresher

It looks nothing like a B&M

Also, look at them Negative Gs. They would pop everyones head as they went over the hills. -1 's and you starting to feel blood go to your head, -2 Gs brings headaches and swelling eyelids. -3 Gs and eyes will start to bleed. If your going at less than -2 Gs a lot, you will die.
  • SUPA-X%s's Photo
if yuo guys are so unhappy about it then fix it and a ride are whatever and enter it for deathmatch thing
  • Kumba%s's Photo
The ratings were fine, only they were not passing after something was edited, but the ride is survivable. And it is NOT a B&M Hyper coaster. Being 300ft it's a B&M Giga.

Sorry if my creativity has bothered anyone

    You wouldn't survive it.

    Edit - Fixed Quote.

Also, OLE, how is it stupid? We all know RCTNW can build big structures and make them look good, but I've yet to see him build smaller structures that impress me.

That's so fucking stupid it's funny  .

Nice park. Hopefully I'll be able to look at it some time soon.

Oh trav, you're talking about the lift hill...
Yeah, I thought you were talking about the layout because those are fine, my bad.
